LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- He's hit another a milestone. A Lexington man, famous for how many times he's been arrested, took his 1,000th trip to jail.

Police arrested Henry Earl for alcohol intoxication, a charge he's faced hundreds of times before.

Earl is a pseudo-celebrity because of his extensive record. He's been featured on late night talk shows and has several websites dedicated to tracking his arrest record.

Earl's 1,000th arrest happened late Monday night on South Limestone. He'll be in court Tuesday afternoon to answer to this latest charge.

If you're wondering what 1,000 arrests equals, here's a look at Henry Earl's history.

In all, he's spent 4,123 days in jail.

35 of his 1000 arrests have been this year alone, landing him behind bars 189 days in 2008.

On average, Earl is out of jail about two days before he lands back behind bars, although this time he was out for four days before his latest arrest.

I believe this man is a very intelligent individual. He gets fame and a place where he receives food and shelter for free. The rest of us have to work hard to achieve such things.

I think he is trying to get into the book of world records!

I wish WITN would take that goofy picture of him down, he looks like a d@m^ squirrel.

This sounds almost like the drunk in Mayberry, but he had sense enought to lock his self up,and not waste anybody time. OMG

Posted by: Jim Location: Va. on Sep 29, 2008 at 02:49 PM
Maybe he likes the mystery meat sandwiches and the fruit I hear that they feed them.

Posted by: Neb Location: NC on Sep 29, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Oops! I didn't read the article thoroughly: seems he does have a following!!

Posted by: Neb Location: NC on Sep 29, 2008 at 12:30 PM
Where in the article does it say he's doing this for attention? Blame the news media for all the hoop-la.

Posted by: bozomom Location: kinston on Sep 29, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Why not jail the dumb bunny,s who keep arresting him.Do not clog up the courts with trying him. Take him to a mental rehab hospital. They believe he is sick. I don,t!Cut off his SSI. SOMEONE IS BUYING HIS ALCOHOL!

Posted by: bigfruitbasket Location: NC on Sep 29, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Bless his little heart. His momma must be so proud of her little boy.

Posted by: VietnamVet Location: Greenville on Sep 29, 2008 at 08:27 AM
If you can't work the system, make the system work for you. An honest man never gets help from the government when he needs it most.

Posted by: Cat Location: Gboro on Sep 29, 2008 at 08:05 AM
Hey! I got an idea! Lets give this moron some MORE attention!! Wait, we just did! Gaaaaaaahhh..

Posted by: Carmen Location: Stonewall on Sep 28, 2008 at 12:52 PM
This is sad. Sad, Sad, Sad. What are they thinking?? Lets make a worlds record on being arrested so we can make the news. Do they not know how many people will try this? This is for sure a "GIVE ME A BREAK" post.

Posted by: crazy Location: nc on Sep 28, 2008 at 08:21 AM
This is hardly newsworthy considering the state of the economy. Grow up WITN!

Posted by: puzzled Location: nc on Sep 28, 2008 at 07:28 AM
Do we really need anymore proof that our "justice" system is not working? It looks like he's proud of himself and uses it as a tool to gain attention. Are you still wondering about our young people's role models? Who is paying the fines and court costs and "footing" the bill? We are!!

Posted by: BBQ Lover Location: Greenville on Sep 28, 2008 at 02:30 AM
This man is totally ridiculous! He's milking the system as much as he can! Yep, if he got behind the wheel of a car and killed someone, it wouldn't be funny!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: dixie on Sep 27, 2008 at 11:13 PM
This man obviously does not want help. To "voter"- alcohol and drug abuse are not considered disabilities by SSDI,however diseases that arise from these problems can be disabling(i.e.cirrohsis).I don`t agree but thats the law!

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Sep 27, 2008 at 01:59 PM
That's one way to get free health and dental care. The local county taxpayers are paying for that. This happens everytime a person is jailed.

Posted by: LD Location: NC on Sep 27, 2008 at 11:37 AM
Geezzzzz, and this is where our tax money is going???? I think he thinks it funny!!

Posted by: Geriatric Gene Location: NC on Sep 26, 2008 at 11:04 PM
Why is this garbage still on the streets? Seems like Kentucky needs the death penalty, but theres too many sissy republicans there to ever do anything about it. Typical. A party of criminals that LOOOVE other criminals.

Posted by: voter Location: nc on Sep 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM
anyone consider his monthly "check", his medical expenses, food stamps, disability checks (alcoholism is a disability) he's ENTITLED to a free cell phone, housing, heating, and on and on. the taxpayers foot the bill for ALL his ENTITLEMENTS. the same applies to all CHILDREN he may have sired. suppose he has an opinion on the wall street/banking problems? your tax dollars at work, doesn't it make you proud?

Posted by: Petey Location: Greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 05:05 PM
That's something to be real proudd of. People's tax money is being used and he is making a mockery of it. I for one would give more tax money to have him put to death since he can't learn his lesson.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: greenville, blvd on Sep 26, 2008 at 03:20 PM
Come on folks, now you guys know that the law only put certain people in jail.took his 1,000th trip to jail. wow

Posted by: Fed Up Location: Greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 02:33 PM
Great, just another product of society that our taxes (those who actually work, pay taxes, and are law abiding citizens) have to go and support over and over again. And what's worse is he is proud of it.

Posted by: 5minoffame Location: EasternNC on Sep 26, 2008 at 02:07 PM
Poor fella - some folks will do ANYTHING for attention and that is what he's got - Attention. Potter's Wheel over in Mt Olive would love to have him for rehab and to make pallets everyday from 6 am to 9 pm.

Posted by: T Location: Wash.NC on Sep 26, 2008 at 01:01 PM
I agree with Sarah, send his sorry tail to Sheriff Joe. I think he would look pretty in pink, and eating bologna sandwiches in 105 degree heat.

Posted by: Geez Location: NC on Sep 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM
How can you justify putting someone in prison for life because he is a habitual drunk? I doubt that he has a vehicle to "drive" drunk. He's his own worst enemy. Can you spell rehab???

Posted by: Homer Simpson Location: Springfield on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:58 AM
I laugh at these people to keep from crying.

Posted by: stupid is as stupid does on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Go figure....in a society where we are trying desparately to steer our kids away from drugs and alcohol we put a habitual drunk up on a pedestal and make him a celebrity. Why not put a meth cooker and a crank head in the white house to run the country while we're at it. Henry Earl needs court mandated detox and treatment not talk show spots.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:12 AM
Y ISNT HE IN PRISON

Posted by: Sarah Location: Fayetteville, NC on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:36 AM
why are we even showing this guy attention by posting htis article. Send him to Sheriff Joe.

Posted by: T Location: Washignton on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:22 AM
STUPID!!!!

Posted by: phillip Location: Mt. Olive on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:07 AM
I think its sad that someone could be arrested 10 times, and not be put in prison. The man is never going to change or try to do better. PUT HIM IN PRISON FOR LIFE.

Posted by: Barbara Location: Beulaville NC on Sep 26, 2008 at 07:30 AM
Sounds like this is really something to be pround of. Good influence on family.Should you really put so much emphasis on how many times you have been in jail? I would be ashamed of myself. Yet the media brags on him and makes it sound like he has done something wonderful. I think there is enough troublemakers in this world, and we don't need to brag and boast on how many times you have been to jail or how many times you have been arrested. There are more things to worry about or brag about than this man. He is not worth the time or the energy.Yes he is a human being, but we don't need to put him on a pedestal and brag about this.

Posted by: Ted Location: Greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 04:18 AM
I wonder if Kentucky has a habitual misdemeanor law.

Posted by: Ashley Location: Washington on Sep 25, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Hey he can be just like the Andy Griffith Show... just leave the Jail cell door open for him to come in and out as he pleases, its ashame...but then again i would rether hear about this then the 24/7 coverage of Obama

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 25, 2008 at 08:59 PM
I wonder how much of a celebrity he would be if while driving drunk killed someone.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Know we know why the crime rate is so high, everyone wants to be a celebrity! Way to go government. Thanks for taking control and letting jail be where we reform criminals. Glad to see my hard earned tax dollars pay off.

Posted by: not accurate Location: world wide on Sep 25, 2008 at 07:15 PM
hey, check out the smoking gun site, he has actually been arrested 1333 times, but the electronic record only goes to 1992. sad really!

Posted by: SGB Location: Eastern NC on Sep 25, 2008 at 07:08 PM
Please don't ask "What's next?" ---You just might not like the answer! Remember, this is the land of opportunity in which we live. This guy has obviously had too many!!

Posted by: Cactus Location: Strabane,NC on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:59 PM
This article should not be about Earl, but about the judges. Time for Earl to join the chain gang.

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:44 PM
I wonder how much of a celebrity he will be, and how funny his town will think it is when he gets behind the wheel of a car while he is drunk and kills some one's loved one. It's so funny, I forgot to laugh! ~mental note~'never go to LEXINGTON, Ky'

Posted by: Jon Location: Greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:26 PM
Hey what about all the tax dollars that have been WASTED housing, feeding, providing medical treatment and clothing for this criminal?!?! Is't not so funny after all is it?

Posted by: zach Location: Jacksonville on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:01 PM
Well yeah for him. Just goes to show you how bad and how much we will put up with. Why was this guy not locked up for good along time ago. Way to go media making a news story out of this. First clay aiken now this. Good God what's next?

Posted by: Chris Location: Greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 05:48 PM
And we should make this idiot feel special? The judges who didn't make tougher sentences for him need to go to jail. This guy needs to be locked up , and have the key thrown away. Like Ron White said, "You can't fix stupid"

Posted by: wendy Location: goldsboro on Sep 25, 2008 at 05:34 PM
Make an example out of the Otis wanna be.If the judge would do what he is suppose to do he will not be grinning anymore. This is down right dumb!!!

What happened to the 3 strike rule?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 25, 2008 at 05:12 PM
What a waste of tax dollars. I'm sure he wants to go to jail so he'll have food and a place to sleep.

Posted by: Mouth of the Hood Location: Greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Just goes to show all the pointless laws we have that u can get arrested a 1000 times and still be out.

Posted by: brittany Location: greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:47 PM
why haven't they put him in prison? this is stupid, he is probably proud of his 1000 arrests. He needs to be checked into a clinic and get help!

Posted by: Me Location: At Work on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:21 PM
That is really something to be proud of isn't!!

Posted by: Otis Location: Mayberry on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:07 PM
He should just check himself into jail every weekend, like I do.
