The guys who co-founded Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream say they know the breast is best...

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, sent a letter to the founders of Ben and Jerry's asking them to replace cow's milk with human breast milk in the products.

The ice cream makers responded saying, they applaud PETA's novel approach, but "a mother's milk is best used for her child."

The 'People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' say using human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem with this Idea is. You all sound like kinder garden children that wont eat something new because is sound "yucky". Grow Up! It seem like the world is a little bit backward when we would all drink the milk of an animal before the milk of our own species. If you take the time to research how many of our food products around the world are produced you might become a bit more ill than mothers milk could ever make you. Now if you want to talk lagitamit resions why it may not be a good idea? lets talk about purity standards. If you where to use human milk the risk of communicable disease would be much higher the cost of monitoring would be astronomical.

This only proves what a bunch of extremists PETA is and besides BEN & JERRY are big time supporters of the enviromentalists groups and only a stupid tree hugger would eat their putrid ICE CREAM and only a jerk would join or have anything to do with PETA

Posted by: Do What.... Location: Greenville on Sep 27, 2008 at 10:18 AM
How can anyone be so stupid as to think people would eat ice cream made from breast milk - They must not have heard of H - I - V.

Posted by: Joseph Location: Kinston on Sep 27, 2008 at 09:39 AM
If you didn't figure them out when caught killing animals and putting them in the dumpster then you are a dummy, but remember they are liberal and democrat's

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Sep 27, 2008 at 04:30 AM
Just another valued sub-group of the democratic party. In that collection of loons you may find anything, even people you beleive that obama is qualified to be President of the United States. Let's see PETA, radical feminists, radical environmentalists, pro-abortionists, the ACLU, illigal aliens and the reverend jerimiah wright. What a group. Vote McCain/Palin and let's have a steak with cow milk ice cream for dessert.

Posted by: Kenny Location: Williamston on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:44 PM
I like the bumper sticker that reads PETA 'people eating tasty animals"

Posted by: Chris Location: Greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 06:46 PM
PETA needs to be disbanded , or they need to have leaders with some sense. Feed those idiots a steak and not listen to the intellectual vomit they spew.

Are they serious?? This is the dumbest thing i have ver heard of.

Posted by: Noel Location: Windsor on Sep 26, 2008 at 03:54 PM
I can't beleive Peta released that statement! The dumbest idea I heard all week! lol

Posted by: Brenda Location: Greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 03:13 PM
This is pure disgusting, are they going to start having women dairy farms?

Posted by: AL Location: Greene County on Sep 26, 2008 at 12:20 PM
One phrase: mooo mmmoooo Baby. Cows milk is safer! I agree with the nurse from Kinston!

Posted by: motherof2 Location: greenville on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:28 AM
Great, as if we are not injesting enough hormones from the foods we eat, now we want to inject more hormones and farm out women to produce milk for ice cream....get real.

Posted by: Nurse Location: Kinston on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:29 AM
This is just for publicity. Everyone in healthcare knows breastmilk is considered a 'body fluid'. It would never be allowed for public consumption any more than they would allow urine or blood products to be consumed. Diseases can be transferred through breastmilk. Someone just wants the shock value so they can get their propaganda in the news. People get a life and ignore these freaks. Without publicity they will go away!

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 25, 2008 at 05:03 PM
This is just a little perverted if you ask me. Otherwise, I will open a dairy farm in Beaufort Co. Just might find it hard to find the women to fulfill the orders? Witn keeps us from posting "over the top" stories from PETA are "over the top" and should be tossed.

Posted by: RH on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:48 PM
I can see the sign in the window now..."we serve ice cream made with fresh breast milk"...Cows were made to provide milk for ice cream. These people need a life!

Posted by: mjb Location: windsor on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:14 PM
to Tobie in Maryland: I really don't think that PETA cares if global warming wipes out the human race. They only care about animals, well, some animals.

Posted by: WS Location: Brazil on Sep 25, 2008 at 02:45 PM
PETA are totally FREAK! And they're spreading their trahs around the world as the best ever moral way of life!

Posted by: American Biker Location: Eastern NC on Sep 25, 2008 at 02:00 PM
Two Questions. Where do I get an application to be a milker and second... Do you think they may put it in natural looking containers ( Just a subliminal suggestion )

Posted by: Talon Location: NC on Sep 25, 2008 at 12:57 PM
This idea is STUPID! Everybody knows you that ice cream made from human milk would be nasty. Use human breast milk for what it was intended for, COFFEE and CEREAL!!!! (it makes a tasty and nutritous cheese spread too!!!)

Posted by: Geez Location: NC on Sep 25, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Dumbest thing I've ever heard!!!

Hey all you haters, don't knock it unless you've tried it.

'The ice cream makers responded saying, they applaud PETA's novel approach, but "a mother's milk is best used for her child."' Ben and Jerry said they wouldn't do it, it was just a another insane comment from PETA. The media (no offense WITN, we love you) should stop covering these wackos crazy statements

Posted by: what Location: Washington on Sep 25, 2008 at 08:44 AM
i don't understand what goes through people's minds. i wjill never buy their ice cream again if they do this. cow milk and breast milk taste nothing the same and i think it's so gross!!! i bet they will loose alot of business also

Posted by: John Location: Denver, Colorado on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:34 PM
And who would do the milking, and under what circumstances? *lol*

Posted by: jonie on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:05 PM
I guess peta would rather a woman to suffer than an animal. I agree with treating animals humanly but this is to extreme

Posted by: The real Brandon Location: Texas on Sep 24, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Good job PETA, way to make yourself look even more "credible" them you have been. Seriously, you guys, your brains, very empty they are.

Posted by: Sarah Location: goldsboro on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:06 PM
READ GENESIS... 1st chapter in the BIBLE.. and see why it is GOD Made animals.. for humans to eat.. for us!!

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 24, 2008 at 06:21 PM
If this was to ever happen, which it won't, can you imagine all the ugly breast women there would be. But I'm wondering, is PETA drinking human female breast milk now? I can see those grown people dangling off some woman's breast. It's a horrible image. Wow those are some sick puppies.....LOL@puppies

Posted by: Tobie Location: Baltimore MD on Sep 24, 2008 at 05:37 PM
I guess Ben and Jerry's should just have a bunch of lactating women in their factory giving aways the baby's milk to satisfy PETA!!! Give me a break. These people need to get a life. Fight for something important like global warming which could eventually wipe out the human race. I guess if that happened it would be ok with them since the cows would then be safe. Freakin' idiots.

Posted by: Cactus Location: Strabane, NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Can you just vision this: Ok ladies to your stalls, place your pumps, now milk, a government inspector does his job, ok ladies remove the pumps, show your health card on the way out and collect your pay. This has to be the most fun story and comments yet. The nuts at PETA are really losing any brain cells they ever had.

Posted by: Ted Location: Greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 05:12 PM
I despise PETA, I disagree with every position they have, but I'll give them the benifit of a doubt and assume this was done simply for the shock value.

Posted by: J Location: NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 04:30 PM
PETA that is the most disgusting and stupid thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Take that idea and shove it where the sun don't shine. Do you really think people are going to eat ice cream made from a woman's breast milk that they don't even know

Posted by: Brandon Location: western ma on Sep 24, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Its pretty crazy everyone keeps saying peta is gross for recommending we use breast milk as icecream but I think people drinking the breast milk from cows is just as gross if not grosser. Cows milk is for cows and human breast milk is for humans. Unless your a crazy jesus freak who thinks animals were put here for human gratification.

Posted by: Rick Location: Greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 04:14 PM
This just goes to show how much stock should be put into any idea the lunatics at PETA come up with. How far gone can you get?

Posted by: Tim Location: LaGrange on Sep 24, 2008 at 04:06 PM
I agree with Kathy. My wife and I support the ASPCA, The Humane Society of America, and The American Humane Society. We have six cats, six birds, two dogs, and a large aquarium. I don't believe in animal testing. I use products that don't have animal byproducts or are tested on animals. PETA, however, is way off in left field with some of their tactics. If they're going to knock over a six year old kid at a school function trying to rescue a goldfish, then that's crazy.

Posted by: angie Location: gvegas on Sep 24, 2008 at 03:38 PM
i think they're just trying to prove a point...they don't seriously want to use breast milk for ice cream. its just suppossed to point out that if we don't think its appropriate to drink breast milk (which we are actually designed to drink not cow's milk) then why should we consume milk from cow's or other animals?

Posted by: Tom Location: Washington on Sep 24, 2008 at 03:33 PM
Only wierd people are peta people anyway. Why don't you peta people get a life. You are sick people and you need to just go away. Everyone is laughing at you because you look like a bunch of fools. Peta is just trying to get attention just like the NAACP and 95% of the people only laugh at them.

oh,, by the way who is donating their breasts for this? lol.

Posted by: Curious on Sep 24, 2008 at 03:03 PM
PETA is crazy and yeah this idea is laughable... but I don't see how y'all are so disgusted by human milk opposed to cow milk. It's just against our societal norms, if anything it would be more "natural" to use our own milk then a cows. The cannibalism comment is probably more hilarious then the GOD PUT COWS HERE TO GIVE US MILK variety.

Posted by: KATHY =(^-^)= on Sep 24, 2008 at 02:58 PM
I am sorry.. I do love animals. I have 4 cats, and love other animals alot.. BUT PETA IS NUTS! I appreciate the ASPCA...But alot of times PETA goes way to far.. Please I can't believe this..There is another way. Have people investigate conditions, and improve them. I believe that animals are here for certain purposes. And there has to be a fine line on how us as human beings deal with them. This is NOT the way to do it.. This is crazy, and radical like the way PETA does business.. I have more respect for the ASPCA.. PETA is like people that bomb abortion clinics, killing people in the process... So it is hypocritical for them to say they are for life..when their action can cause death..

Posted by: David Location: Manteo on Sep 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM
I read this last night on another website and almost got sick. This is just by far over the top! PETA has really stepped out of bounds with this suggestion! Would those people drink another woman's breast milk? I seriously doubt it. To me, its a form of cannibalism. Is PETA cannibals? It seems as though they are willing to eat their own children than to eat an animal that was put on this earth by God as a food supply. I also want to know the names of these Swiss restaurants that are now serving human breast milk. I will never eat there!

Posted by: Keith Location: Greeville on Sep 24, 2008 at 02:13 PM
PETA needs to get a life. Breast milk in ice cream is !!!SICK!!!. That sounds like something PETA would come up with.

Posted by: mjb Location: windsor on Sep 24, 2008 at 02:00 PM
I bet Pamela Anderson would be proud to stand out on this subject. But then, she already looks like a cow. I wonder how many animals died testing all of the "fake" body parts she has. Her being a spokesperson for PETA says enough about them as far as I'm concerned. PETA's good for picking up animals, killing them in their vans and illegaly dumping them in dumpsters. They don't really care about animals, they care about raising some dumb idea to get in the limelight. That crowd needs some help.

Posted by: Carmen Location: Stonewall on Sep 24, 2008 at 01:55 PM
PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, sent a letter to the founders of Ben and Jerry's asking them to replace cow's milk with human breast milk in the products. THIS IS TOTALLY SICK. They have gone to far.

even the cows are looking at PETA funny now. just to be clear the cow said "we are not associated with them at this point in time" MOOOOOOO

Posted by: smith Location: nc on Sep 24, 2008 at 01:37 PM
I wonder if peta drinks breast milk all the time. when they had this meeting to discuss this idea i wonder if they used breast milk in there coffee. if not then they should have. If peta wants this done I hope the women in their organization sign up first to start pumping. WOW WHAT A DUMB IDEA.

Posted by: Tony Location: GVegas on Sep 24, 2008 at 01:36 PM
I guess all PETA members eat their corn flakes dry in the morning.I say we have a good old eastern NC pig pickin at their HQ

Posted by: joe Location: greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 01:35 PM
just when you thought you heard it all PETA goes and tops it. If ben and jerrys went with it I wonder what flavor they would call it? but anyways PETA is STUPID. that was a BAD idea and they must have just wanted some attention.

PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals. Yum.

Posted by: Howdy Location: Washington on Sep 24, 2008 at 01:22 PM
If ppl want ice cream made of breast milk, then those loonies can go and buy an ice cream maker and make their own for their own personal use, but leave Ben and Jerry's out of it. Leave my Cherry Garcia alone!

Posted by: me Location: NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 12:41 PM
I wonder how milking causes suffering for cows? And why is it okay for humans, who are at the top of the food chain, to go through that? And how many members of PETA are going to apply for that job? Just wondering, because this is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard. PETA wants to be taken seriously, and then come out with crap like this. LOL!!!

Posted by: tj Location: nc on Sep 24, 2008 at 12:20 PM
What a bunch of IDIOTS!!! PETA is always stirring up something, usually they can get some sheeple to follow along with them. I bet we won't see Pamela Anderson in any adds for this one!!!

Just palin out SICK! The ENTIRE PETA are a bunch of strange individuals.

Posted by: Off the Deep END! Location: eastern, NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Does this mean we would have more women getting pregnant for money? Whatever happened to men and women falling in love, getting married and then having kids? Nowadays we have babies to fit in, to get a check, or to make breast milk for PETA? Where is the LOVE in today's society? Does anyone even bother to really think anymore? Obviously not.... This is an incredibly stupid idea. I am all for animals being treated well. But what about us humans?

Posted by: Somewhere Location: Eastern NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:08 AM
That is so funny. What are they going to do line up woman and pump there brest. Also think of the diseases some woman may have, or the drugs they take. So gross. Dairy cows are normally well taken care of. I love animals but to me this is so stupid.

Posted by: Moo on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:07 AM
Aren't dairy cows designed by God specifically to produce milk? What would be cruel would be to NOT milk dairy cows. I think they teetered right over the edge on this one...

Posted by: Ashley Location: Greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:05 AM
This is by far one of the weirdest and most disgusting thing they have come up with yet.

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 24, 2008 at 10:36 AM
~rubbing my chin~....I wonder how much would they pay?

The reaction to this story is funny.

Posted by: Red State Location: Washington co. on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:49 AM
That settles it. PETA is officially the organization for People Entering Twilight Area (zone didn't work):). I'm actually surprised that the extremely liberal Ben & Jerry didn't consider it. Can't support them even though I do love some Cherry Garcia. Back to PETA, they have really become a domestic terrorist organization in a way. They would accomplish so much more for their cause if they just showed a little bit of restraint, but they instead choose to try to damage people who disagree with them in any way possible. Whether by physical threats, loss of business, damage to property, whatever. Whoever is steering that ship is off their rudder (again - rocker just didn't work) :) .

Who in their right mind would want to drink another woman's breast milk?

Posted by: Danielle Location: Jacksonville on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:31 AM
Yes, human milk can be pumped not unlike a cow's, but it comesin much smaller quantities and is for the purpose of putting in a bottle for a baby, not an adult's ice cream. I breastfeed my child proudly, but that doesn't mean I want to eat what she is eating. I have heard of women who pump and use their milk for their families, but they are few and far between (and more than a little crazy if you ask me). I'll stick to my cow's milk, thanks PETA.

Posted by: Connie Location: Washington on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:26 AM
Gross,just plain gross!

Posted by: yea right Location: NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:10 AM
Ok how many of your PETA people have nursed first of all....second how long do you want to be attatched to a pumping machine and have your "girls" end up looking like the cows themselves, because that's exactly what's gonna happen. The human body couldn't even produce enough breast milk to cover the need for Ben & Jerry's nor the rest of the US for that matter....I loved breast feeding my daughter but I feel not everyone would like to share someone elses breast milk...not to mention no two peoples breast milk will be alike either, everyone has a different diet. OR are the PETA supporters gonna control what we eat...this is just to much..

Posted by: People Eating Tasty Animals Location: Greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:07 AM
Can we do self extractions on the human breast milk? "More milk sir?"

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 24, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Here; PETA has never had 'most of mainstream America'. Most of mainstream America recognizes them for the nut cases they are.

Posted by: Matt Location: Greenville on Sep 24, 2008 at 08:11 AM
That has to be the single most ridiculous, dumbest, all around bad idea I have ever heard.

Posted by: Sarah Location: Fayetteville, NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 08:01 AM
THAT IS DANG DISGUSTING! I like ben and jerry's but i will stop buying their ice-cream if they start doing this. These PETA people need to remember they grew up on cows milk.

I wish they had somthing beter to do that try to dictate the way the rest of us live. they dont know what there talking about, dairy cows are treated very well, if they are treated badly they dont produce as they should. go find a tree to hug!

Posted by: here Location: here on Sep 24, 2008 at 07:44 AM
PETA get a grip. Most times they carry things just too far! Therefore loosing most of mainstream America. They would have alot more people for there cause if they weren't so insane sometimes!

Posted by: Ozone Location: Belhaven on Sep 24, 2008 at 07:39 AM
This is the most disqusting idea I have ever heard. Why would something so ignorant even make the news. Who wants to eat someones breast milk? Come to think about it this story should only be read in the enquirer!!

Posted by: HAHAHA Location: NC on Sep 24, 2008 at 07:39 AM
You have to be kidding me? I would never eat Ben & Jerry's again if they did that.. I love animals myself but do we totally do with out cows milk completely? PETA..you have gone a little to far with this one in my opinion!
