The Highway Patrol said a 29-year-old man was killed before dawn Saturday morning after a wreck flipped his car and threw him from it.
Dispatchers confirm with WITN that 29-year-old Brian Kirby was killed in the Saturday morning wreck around 4:15 a.m., just a little south of Vanceboro along Highway 17 in Craven County.
According to trooper's reports, Kirby was heading north when he veered over the center line and to the left. Reports said Kirby hit a utility pole, flipped his car, then hit a driveway culvert before he was thrown from the car.
Troopers said careless and reckless driving contributed to the fatal wreck, and added the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
No one else was in the vehicle or hurt in that crash, according to trooper's reports.
