A 40-year-old man is in critical condition after an accident at The Dirt Track Lowe's Motor Speedway. Chris James had both legs amputated below the knee by doctors at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte and remains in the hospital's trauma intensive care unit. The Charlotte Observer reports that James was driving a "track packer" car -- used to pack the water into the dirt surface -- before the beginning of the World of Outlaws and Late Model races Wednesday night. James' car apparently malfunctioned, and when he got out to check it, another car hit his parked car and pushed it against him, crushing his legs against the wall. James was among two men injured in separate incidents at the track. Another track packer driver was injured when he lost control
of his car and slammed into the wall. That driver was treated and released Wednesday night at North East Medical Center.
