The state House easily approved a proposed dollar-an-hour increase in North Carolina's minimum wage. The raise to six-dollars and 15 cents received tentative approval by a 68-to-39 vote. The House plans to hold debate and a final House vote Tuesday. The Senate has also suggested a $1 increase as part of a budget bill approved today. Governor Easley has recommended an 85-cent increase. Both chambers and the governor would have to agree to an increase before it becomes law. State Treasurer Richard Moore and former Senator John Edwards also have lobbied the General Assembly recently for the raise.
