High prices continue at a gas station in Greene County. The Walstonburg Service Station in Greene County is selling a gallon of regular gas this week for $5.40.

Gas station owner, Bob Hicks, took the family business over from his father Carl T. Hicks over 25 years ago.

Hicks says he is selling his gas for almost what he paid for it on Monday of this week. A situation Hicks says is out of his control

Hicks says he bought a limited amount of gas at this price and he expects the price to go down next week.

I agree with Debbie Murphys comment on 9/19/08 I know Mr Bobby Hicks and do not believe he will gouge his customers. However I also know the other store (4-way)in the Hookerton area that Ray commented about on 9/19/08 and it does not suprise me at all that the owner of 4-way store would raise prices to make a dollar.

To Dumb Founded of Kinston, its the fault of our government for price gouging but the news media will never call them to get quotes because when it comes to the controllers of this country, everything must be hush hush! No one is allowed to fault our leaders!! If the government didnt get so greedy first then these gas station owners would not do it. But we are not allowed to speak bad about our "Wonderful" government! If we could just get one reporter with enough gutts to make that one phone call for comments to our government, the truth will come out but the news media only covers what they are allowed to cover! But I know that our "Great president and government" and the oil companies are the ones who are pocketing the money!! Isnt it funny how the prices skyrocketed way before there was ANY damage done to any of the oil wells in the gulf coast? Its because they found an excuse to use to get that extra buck!!!

If you watched and or read the article Mr. Hicks is selling his gas for "almost" what he paid for it. So who is to blame if he does not want to sell his gas for less than his cost? Lets see how see how far your business goes when you sell your product for less than what it cost and see how long you stay in business. I find it hard to trash the man for what big oil is doing to us!!! Sure we have some stations that are adding insult to injury, but before you lock someone up and throw away the key learn the facts.

It seems odd to me that the price per barrel for oil has decreased anywhere from 30-50 dollars but yet the price per gallon of gas is still between 3 and 5 dollars when it should be much less.

I needed gas to cut my grass on last Friday, I went to the nearest store in my area which is 4 Way convenient store in fourway, the gas was $4.99, waht a outrage for gas you already had in the ground the enitre week.

there is a toll free number to call about places like this - they are not BY LAW able to do that... places are not suppose to make more than $.20 profit per gallon

I am amazed that we can send a probe to mars and control the movement of the craft from earth but can't figure out who is behind the gouging of gasoline prices.Enough said?

As long as we the people will pay these high gas prices the Stations will continue to charge them. I recommend letting the Walstonburg Station keep his $5.40 gas and go somewhere else, drive less, pool rides and save gas. Attend the community meeting and organize, fight it or pay it, it's just that simple. Of course, we can continue to blame President Bush, or who ever is in office at the time and leave things like they are, you know, turn on the TV and listen to the news, find out what we are gonna think tomorrow and who to blame, and just stay at the Mall or where ever it is we go to avoid responsibility.

This wednesday's 9/17/2008 "The Standard Laconic" (Greene County's) newspaper reported on the front page that Shine Shopping Center, also in Greene County, "was forced with the decision to pay $5 a gallon wholesale or close the pumps" when they ran out of gas Thursday night. The owner "said that independent gas stations are caught in the middle, while large corporations... have plenty of gas." He also "said he would have gas on Tuesday afternoon. He planned to charge $3.99/gallon." I think that is the truth personally. I've known Bobby Hicks all my life and I can't believe he'd be sticking it to the good folks of Walstonburg just to make a buck...

no one can afford to buy gas at these prices....we go to work and back, and that is about it. gas needs to go back to 1.50 a gallon. there is no reason to have gas prices so high.

PLUS FUEL (CYPRESS STATION) LOCATED IN CHOCOWINITY, NC (OLD BLOUNTS CREED RD) FROM FRIDAY MORNING UNTIL MONDAY SOLD THEIR REGULAR GAS FOR $4.79 A GALLON AND UP. WHILE THE HESS STATION DOWN THE ROAD SOLD THEIRS FOR $3.69 IN THE MORNING AND $3.99 IN THE AFTERNOON. BUT PLUS FUEL MAINTAINED THEIR RIDICILOUS PRICES. THEY SHOULD ALSO SHOULD HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR GAS GOUGING. TODAY THEIR PRICES RAN $3.98 REG. THRU $4.39 FOR PREMIUM. THE LITTLE MAN CAN NOT CATCH A BREAK GOING OR COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!
