Health departments around eastern Carolina will soon be holding flu vaccine clinics.

The Craven County Health Department has two clinics set for Friday, October 10th and Friday, October 24th from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

The price of the flu vaccine this year is $29.00; however, Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield will be accepted.

The health department asks people to call 636-4920 to schedule an appointment.

The Centers for Disease Control says vaccine manufacturer's are projecting that as many as 143 million to 146 million doses of influenza vaccine will be manufactured for use in the United States during the 2008-09 influenza season. This is an all-time high supply of vaccine making it possible for more people than ever to seek protection from the flu.
The flu vaccine protects against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season. This year's influenza vaccine contains three new influenza virus strains: A/Brisbane/59/2007(H1N1)-like virus, A/Brisbane/10/2007 (H3N2)-like virus, B/Florida/4/2006-like virus.
