A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
The Federal Government is coming to the rescue again for some farmers in Eastern Carolina. $250 million is being offered up to farmers who suffered losses due to the horrific 2005 hurricane season. Farmers from Onslow, Jones, Pamlico, Craven, Carteret, Hyde, and Dare Counties all qualify for the assistance as long as they made a claim with their farm insurance companies. The assistance covers five main areas of agriculture. There are already a number of farmers that have signed up for assistance. The Hurricane Assistance program only provides 30 percent of what the insurance companies already paid out.
