Sticker shock at the gas pumps continues even as the storm which created this price hike is out of the gulf.

Drivers still looking for relatively cheap gas will have a hard time finding it.

In the Beaufort County town of Chocowinity, one gas station post gas over the four dollar mark, while the fuel station down the road sits one penny under it.

Drivers tell me, they've had to alter their weekend driving habits due to the gas hike.

Thelma Davis says, " I just had not to go to the store. I had everything ready and had it at home because i didn't know what was going to happen. It's very sad, because so many people need gas, need transportation and not just for foolishness."

Davis says she struggling with high prices, but has to drive, she says she will have to cut back on other items, like groceries.

Gas went up a solid dollar (4.599) in less than 24 hr. even before the hurricane touched shore at the Makin Tracks on the corner of 5th and 15th by Foodlion. You are right...don't shop here ever again. Call the attorney General, they will take your report over the phone if you ask nicely.

We know which stations were trying to price gouge us. We should stay away from these stations. Do not purchase gas, drinks or snacks from these stations. Let's stick together and show these stations that we don't appreciate them trying to take advantage of us. I hope our Attorney General is looking into this and will take appropriate actions. Email your Governor and let's put the heat on our elected officials to stop price gouging. We might not be able to control all of these stations, but if we work together the next time the price of gas shoots up, maybe these station owners will think twice about raising above the suggested price, that is if they are still in business!

Why is it that the national gas average only went up 7 cents but the gas station on the corner of Hwy 264 and Tranter's Creek Road in Washington (Travel Store) went up almost a dollar. While most all other gas stations are in Washington remain at 3.99 a gallon, this particular gas station is $4.59. I just don't understand. I will say that this particular gas station has now lost my business completely. It seems like all the gas stations outside of Washington are 10 to 80 cents lower so I think there is some major price gouging within our community. At this time I refuse to be one of those people that runs out and buys gas because I really won't need any until next week. Hello people, we are going to run out of gas if folks over react (like they always do) and run out and fill up when it's really not necessary. Oil is being released from the strategic reserves to help out with the shut down of platforms. It is a real same that these locally owned business' are price gouging.

It's 3.69 on the sign in Pitt County but no gas in the pumps. Every gas station I went to this weekend was out. Finally was able to fill up at Sam's.
