A | A | A

The mother kneels in the snow, cheerfully posing beside her bundled up daughter, behind the bloody, dead caribou the mom just shot.

Maybe not your typical family photo. But that's Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the disarming mom who's not afraid to carry arms or use them.

Palin would be a heartbeat away from the presidency if she and Republican nominee John McCain win in November. She was introduced to the country by McCain as very much the woman in that photo: tough and loving. She's the ethics-protecting, belt-tightening mom, who easily juggles family and her government job.

A visitor to her office can see Palin, a 44-year-old mother of five, as she coos to baby Trig and changes his diapers. A lush bear pelt shot by her father is draped over the couch and a three-foot king crab shell is perched on a table. Daughters Piper, Willow and Bristol stroll in and out, and crayon drawings are tucked beneath her glass desktop.

She switches back and forth between mother and governor without a blink. But details of her life that have emerged under the glare of national attention show that she's a complicated politician. She's disarming and accessible for some, vindictive and hard toward others. She has many loyal friends, tremendous hometown support, and a few fierce enemies.

This week, her lawyer is scrambling to sidetrack an ethics investigation into whether she abused her power as governor to pressure officials to fire her sister's ex-husband, a state trooper who had been disciplined for drinking beer in his patrol car, illegally shooting a moose and firing a Taser at his 11-year-old stepson.

The McCain campaign boasts of her pork-cutting, but up close it looks more like a trim. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. She boasts of rejecting plans to build the notorious "Bridge to Nowhere," a $389 million bridge to an island with 50 residents. But only after she said yes did she say no, rejecting the locally-popular project after it was ridiculed and Congress cut some of the funds. She hung onto $27 million to build the approach road to the bridge.

She's an opponent of government financing of sex-education programs in Alaska. When she announced last week that her 17-year-old unwed daughter, Bristol, was five months pregnant, she said having a baby would make her daughter "grow up faster than we had ever planned."

Palin was born Sarah Louise Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho, and moved to Wasilla, Alaska, as an infant with her parents, Chuck Heath, a school teacher, and Sally Heath, a school secretary. Raised in a Pentecostal church, she has called herself "as pro-life as any candidate can be."

Like many Alaskans and other rural Americans, Palin was raised hunting and fishing. She played flute in the junior high band (and years later in a beauty pageant.) In high school. Palin played basketball and ran cross country while leading her high school chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She was a roaming student, switching from junior colleges, private institutions and public schools first in Hawaii, and later in Alaska and Idaho. During those college years, she did make one electoral bid: at 20, in a red strapless gown with her hair flipped back, Palin won Miss Wasilla and came in second at the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant, taking home the Miss Congeniality award.

Yes she smoked pot. And yes she inhaled, she says. No, she does not support legalization.

After graduating from the University of Idaho with a degree in journalism, she covered hockey matches and basketball games for two Anchorage television stations.

She married her high school sweetheart Todd, a North Slope oil field worker, and quickly started a family. She gave birth to their first son Track less than eight months later. Sarah worked for his family's commercial fishing business.

Palin entered politics in her hometown in 1992, running for City Council in Wasilla, population around 7,000. There was no police department and a dusty airstrip ran through the middle of town. Ten years later, after two terms on the council and two as mayor, Palin the sports fan had left her mark. The airstrip is now a lush park, complete with skateboard ramps, BMX track, a large playground and an Armed Forces memorial. There's a new hockey rink and sports center, and the main roads are lined with standard strip mall stores — Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot.

When Palin was elected mayor in 1996, she received 651 votes — the loser, a nine-year incumbent, received 413. It was the biggest municipal election turnout ever, according to the local paper.

She told the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman newspaper at the time, "I knew people agreed with my message of conservatism but I didn't know if that message would reach them."

John Stein, her opponent, said Palin had brought into the campaign his "alleged stance on gun control and abortion, even why his wife had a different last name than him," the paper reported.

Palin promised to cut government. In office, part of her refashioning included a loyalty test, in which she asked the city's top managers to resign unless they would work with her new administration.

"Some of the things I'm doing, it's obvious I'm not running for Miss Congeniality. I'm running the city," she reportedly said at the time.

Police Chief Irl Stambaugh, who had supported Palin's opponent, lasted several months before he was fired. Palin denied that the firing was politically motivated, saying only, "You know in your heart when someone is supportive of you."

Stambaugh sued, accusing her of contract violation, wrongful termination and gender discrimination. He said his contract forbade his being terminated without cause. A federal judge in 2000 dismissed his lawsuit, which sought more than $500,000 in damages, saying the former police chief served at the mayor's discretion and could be terminated for nearly any reason.

The town, at least most of it, didn't hold it against Palin.

"She truly listened to what we wanted in our town and she got it done," said Richard Clayton, owner of the local bike shop who for 20 years has been equipping the Palins with everything from single speeds for Track to handlebar streamers for Piper.

In her private life, Palin is a self described "hockey Mom" — a role other moms at the Wasilla rink say is something like a soccer mom but more rugged. She needs that trait: Her baby has Down syndrome, her oldest son heads to Iraq in a week as a U.S. soldier.

Although her focus has been politics, the Palins have been involved in a series of small businesses, often with partners. These included a carwash in Anchorage — the Palins had a 20 percent stake — which last year was issued a certificate of involuntary dissolution by the state after the owners failed to pay state fees. They've also owned a snowmobile business and in 2005, Palin also registered the name for a marketing and consulting startup company: Rouge Cou, translated from French to "red neck." It never operated as a business.

Her salary as governor is $125,000 a year, and her husband — who twice registered for the Alaskan Independence Party, a states' rights group that wants to turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state — earned about $40,000 last year for winning a 1,900 mile snowmobile race. Their lakeside home, appraised at about $500,000, is down a long, dirt driveway with a brand new "No Trespassing" sign posted at the entrance. A seaplane sits at the dock, and large windows open up to the spectacular views of Lake Lucille and the tree-covered hills beyond.

Last week when Palin was introduced to the nation she was described as a straight shooter.

But some of her positions, and her actions, are certainly more complex than they've been described, like getting rid of the governor's jet.

"That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay," she told cheering Republican delegates at their convention last week. True, but she left out that it never sold on eBay. And so state staffers had to broker a deal with a buyer.

Her role as head of state's National Guard has been touted as giving her national defense experience. But in fact when the national guard is called to defend the nation, the governor relinquishes all authority to federal officials.

As governor, Palin called for environmental protection in Alaska, but she's opposed the U.S. government's listing of a variety of animals as endangered, including the polar bear and the beluga whale, both of which inhabit areas also rich in oil and natural gas.

Alaskans here, for the most part, remain proud of their anti-abortion, conservative Christian, gun shooting governor. They're largely unfazed by current charges against her of abuse of power, and they're frankly offended by all the attention paid to Palin's pregnant teenage daughter and her suddenly announced fiance, Levi Johnston.

Alaskans like her enthusiasm for more drilling for oil, and especially the $3,269 investment rebate and resource refund checks they're going to receive from the state this month. Just about everyone — including Palin — wants a natural gas pipeline built through their state.

Anne Kilkenny, a Wasilla local who grew up with Palin and whose critical essay about her has circulated internationally in the media and on the Web, said her appointment is stunning.

"People are mind boggled to think that a local girl could be the president of the United States if the Republican ticket is successful and something could happen to this 72-year-old candidate who has had four bouts of melanoma."

VBush, will you be quiet?

I look forward to the morning of Nov.5th, when the headlines read President McCain. Will the blogs be quiet?

Posted by: Red State Location: Washington Co. on Sep 11, 2008 at 09:32 AM
Snake Oil, I disagree with you on the lipstick comment. I think Obama used this old colloquialism intentionally because of Sarah Palin's recent use of "lipstick" referring to a pit bull. To deny that he knew the connection the audience would make to that comment is naive and implies that he is not the saavy politician that we know him to be. He knew to what he was referring and so did his audience. And to that I say SO WHAT! It was a little dig at the pitbull with lipstick. I would think a pitbull could handle it. This is national, Presidential politics. Put on your big girl pants and deal with it. The Republican party is not a party of whiners and victims. Traditionally, the Dems own that and they're welcome to it. I think it was a mistake for the McCain campaign to even acknowledge the remark, much less put out an ad about it.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 11, 2008 at 08:43 AM
I will state with fairness that Obama didn't say the remark about Palin as it was taken out of context by the media. I think the audiance also took it to mean Palin. Lonny, I saw the video on Obama on defense of this country and it scared the hell out of me. This is why I accuse so many on this board as wearing blinders. They should go see it for themselves as it is in the guys own words. Its like he is giving up his country's defense ability to make us vulnerable to anybody. Bucky, rest assured that Sarah can take of herself. Even the liberals in Alaska liked the way she went after both parties. She doesn't take prisoners. It is "leadership ability" that she has. Obama has similar leadership abilities its just his agenda of what he wants to do that is terrifying. Do you research on "facts" not party rhetoric. You need to learn about this guy.

Vicki, So typical. You people only have immature, meaningless statements to contribute. Can none of you say anything that is remotely 'grownup' sounding? I guess not, since I've been asking for quite some time now.

Posted by: Vicki Location: Greenville on Sep 10, 2008 at 07:01 PM
Has anyone noticed the look on Cindy McCain's face when she's on stage with the mooseburger eating, redneck, ride your child on a 4-wheeler with no helmet Sarah Palin? It's hilarious, I don't care who you are! Talk about a forced smile!

Posted by: To Lonny Earl Location: Greenville on Sep 10, 2008 at 04:55 PM
You want to hear a scary scenario? obama would stop any more research and development on antinuclear missle systems and the demilitarization of space(out of his own mouth). So we stop doing this and Russia, China, N. Korea, Iran etc... continue on with their developments. You want scary, there you go and "here's your sign". His words sound alot like the words of someone who wants to bring our defenses down for some reason. I wonder what that reason is? The Facts

Posted by: Jess on Sep 10, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Lonny, you have said it better than anyone. Very Scary. And Snake Oil... Have you seen the clip of McCain using the" pig in lipstick " last year sometime? I guess it's alright then. It was on the Today show this morning. :)

Posted by: Bucky Location: Greenville NC on Sep 10, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Lonny Earl is exactly correct. The thought of this ultra right wing religious zealot taking the helm if McCain bites the dust from old age and ill health is scary. I know George Bush has not been particularly bright and in turn has driven the country into near ruin. But Palin might just make his tenure look like a church picnic. Vote Hope

As stated here on this message board, we are big kids here. Palin and McCain will shake up DC based on their past dealing with government agencies. I have family in Alaska that have made it very clear they would vote Palin in again. They are democrats. She cleaned house in the state and made a lot of politicians take notice there is a new sherrif in town. She went after both repulican and democrat, it wasn't personal, if you were corrupt, you got out or kept ethical. Some post on this board that the republicans are the sold problem, both parties as the democrats control both houses right now. They have a less than 20% approval rating. That is what democrats and republican voters say in the polls. Palin and McCain said they would expose pork projects and ethical issues with both houses. I think that is the first time I have heard anybody doing that. That is what Palin did in Alaska. I have seen a pig with lipstick, Sarah Palin ain't no pig in lipstick. Someone needs glasses. See ya

Posted by: Lonny Earl Location: Pitt County on Sep 10, 2008 at 03:01 PM
Scary scenario: a doddering, aged McCain in poor health and a VP who is an evangelical Penetcostal, book-banning,power abusing, right wing extremist establishing US policy.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 10, 2008 at 09:49 AM
To the Editor; Had it been anyone but the candidate himself I would support your argument. This IS Obama himself. I am sure if you viewed it yourself you would find it credible as it gets. As far as the AP's credibility goes.....all I can say is..if you say so.:)

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Sep 10, 2008 at 09:44 AM
To Mary...Congress legislates programs that cause spending increases. However, the President doesn't have the "guts" to veto any of the proposed bills. A bipartisan commission needs to go through every federally funded program, and come up with real cuts in spending. Pork needs to be trimmed and that includes all districts currently on the gravy train. All subsidies to corporations need to be cut, and either run a corporation or business correctly or fail. No more bailouts! Governors and state legislators, regardless of party, need to be held to account. The free lunch is over, so get ready to tighten the belt. Our Congress is an absolute disgrace!!!

Obama's Lipstick Comments

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 10, 2008 at 08:00 AM
Editor; I posted to this article last night. Why has it been dumped?

EDITOR'S NOTE: As you know we have various guidelines...one of them includes posting unverified information. Not saying this was the case, but many political posts have rumors included in them. WITN tries its best not to post rumors about candidates...or anyone else for that matter. Simply saying it was on google.com isn't good enough. It has to be verified by a credible news source such as AP. Thanks!

The only thing I have done here is to tell the TRUTH. And I quote "You can't handle the truth". And the main stream media will not print the truth about your obama. And I'm still waiting for reasons why your candidate is worthy. How about you obama4prez, can you produce any facts? You say you're an educated teacher. If this be the case then backup your statements with FACTS. Its very simple, but then again.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 10, 2008 at 12:49 AM
Once again the media's bias is demonstrated here. Why not run a story about Obama's qualifications/experience or lack of should I say.

Posted by: Mary Location: Edenton on Sep 10, 2008 at 12:13 AM
I am strongly concerned about Palin's lack of restraint in spending. She was elected mayor of a town that owed no debt. When she left office, Wasilla owed nearly $20,000,000 - or $3000 per resident. Where is this "change" going to be? It looks like McCain with his proposed tax cuts and Palin with her wild spending habits (raised Wasilla budget from $3.9 million to $5.8 million) would leave this country even further in debt. As it is, the US's national debt is $9.7 TRILLION dollars ($32,000 per resident). Can we really afford 4 more years of Republicans in office???

Posted by: Mary Location: Edenton on Sep 10, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Crystal, you say she is intelligent? Palin speaking about the mortgage/Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac crisis - "McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, speaking in Colorado Springs, Colo., said Fannie and Freddie had "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." Well that's lovely - except the companies aren't taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. BC of the Republicans, the taxpayers wil have even more expense. And she will help craft economics? When she doesn't understand the most basic facts of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

I'm waiting for McCain to quote Brad Dourif from "Graveyard Shift" to Palin in regards to his Vietnam service- "...and I ain't one of them burnin' baby flashback f@#$ ups you see Bruce Dern playin', so quit your grinnin'! Yeah."

to concerned the catholic church will grant divorces it is just time consuming.I was married in the catholic church and was pregnant at the time and the priest new and had no problem peforming our wedding and we have been married for 23 years.Yes she has a pregnant daughter and as a mother I commend her for standing behind her daughter and supporting her even if it's frowned upon by those who feel their opinions actually matter. There have been unwed pregnant mothers since the beginning of time and I feel that god will forgive them. I also don't feel that god is going to banish a person to hell for getting a divorce. Your comment is typical democrat. What do you truely know of obama. His mother was also divorced.

Posted by: Concerned on Sep 9, 2008 at 08:11 PM
I don't understand the white catholic women voting for Palin, doesn't her family life go against everything the catholic faith preaches, 17 year old unmarried pregnant daughter, palin herself divorced, do I need to go on. Get to the real reason we vote democrates and republicans. Issues?

You have spent days bad mouthing every one on this site that said anything and now you are asking US to vote for McBush, "SORRY LIFE DON'T WORK THAT WAY" as for OJ I have always believed he killed his wife so don't think you did anything for me. There is no way I would ever vote for McBush. You don't talk to people like they are dogs then turn around and ask them for something. My four kids knew that back when they were two years old. People like you drove people away from the Republican Party now live with it. WE will never vote Republican if the country goes down, YOU ALL CAN THANK BUSH and McBUSH for it. GOOD BY

Nothing in the Constitution mandates the Vice President has to be an expert on Foreign Affairs. The President assigns duties and tasks to the VP. I guess McCain will take care of foreign affairs, and Palin with be more involved in domestic/economic issues if they are elected.

I have just listened and read the words spoken by obama himself and after seeing this I draw this conclusion. If he wins then it was meant to be. Willed by a much higher entity. This has to be the only explanation as there are not that many insanely naive people in this great nation. If he wins, he's exactly wright, CHANGE IS COMING, just not the change you libs are expecting.

The truth is, you know we are right in your heart. The problem is you can't stand for someone to show you the truth because of your pride, NO MATTER WHAT. Just like the oj simpson deal. You all know he did it, you just had too much pride to admit it. That's just the way your prople are. But I have news for you; this time you need to swallow your pride as your choice affects us all. Just so some of the liberals that like bashing Palin anyway they can, even her family, you should go to this utube video Anonoymous posted and listen in his own words, not spin, not McCain campaign, just Obamas own words from a video he shot. This is what he wants to do to America. "Facts" these are the facts of what this guy stands for and it is scary. This is why no one will post back to you, they don't want you to know this. This would be the biggest disaster in the history of this country if he got elected. In case you are too lost to find the posts; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE Thanks Anonoymous Greenville, that should shed some light on the truth, still can't believe it. Yet I know some of the libs won't understand what is wrong with it.

This lady bringing up her kids and ex aint got squat to do with anything about politics. For the record Palin no one care so stop it...it's not going to get you any brownie points. Getting people to feel sorry for you.

Okay Siuya, I just gave you some facts on McCain and a great resource for obama facts. Now, like you told obama084prez, let's hear your facts. Don't wait a minute longer.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 9, 2008 at 01:42 PM
Facts, I can tell you they don't listen. Wright, Ayer and Rezio...they ignore that since they are all liberals. Its OK for Obama have associations with these crooks and criminals. Point out the facts to them and they will still say, "where are your facts"? There playbook is; McCain, more of the same, Palin's daughter got pregnant, Bush lied, 4 more years of Bush, Bush started the war, Bush is killing our young soldiers (even if they volunteer) and now the number one "Palin is redneck". Of course they come from the party of gay marriage, weak military, weak national security, higher taxes on everybody, illegal aliens, social spending out of control, questionable integrity, removing religion from all aspects of America and last but not least "Global Warming" that Al Gore created while he was in office. Something to do with methane and Al's office in DC...

As a retired Marine, having served in the Johnson, Carter,Reagan and Bush admistrations, the Democrats could care less about the military. Carter prohibited us from wearing our uniforms in Washington,DC during working hours. Clinton dismantled the military in the 90's, and put the burden on the Reserves. Finally, our troops are getting better housing, which was deferred under the Democrats reign. For all you unemployed high school and college graduates, try the military ...you may like it. I did and wouldn't change it for the world.

Devil Dog and Facts, some that post on this board don't realize we are the majority of the Americans. They are the minority in NC. They scream, whine and complain about any republican since they would never cross the yellow dog liberal line. Facts, you hit it right on the money, security and the economy. The other big thing is send McCain and Palin into DC and let them beat on the house and senate. McCain wants to expose both houses for the port and crap they bring to the table. That convinced me. Devil Dog points it out, why don't people hold the two houses accountable for the war and economy? It wasn't Bush, he can't always stop a bill. You think Pelosi and Reid love this country? She loves the "planet". Well she came from Pluto. This is why we have problems with both real problems. Still waiting for the facts on Bush's lies, any takers?

Here is something for all of you who are voting for Obama to think about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE

if you have friends and family in the military then you all should know you can not just snap your fingers and make friends with the enemy. How do you suppose we are going to defend ourselfs not saying that war is the answer but you cant make friends with the enemy either! NO OBAMA!

Everyone keeps talking about Bush being a total disaster but he has had some positive impact... ie., supreme court justices nominated....

I never said I was voting for McCain, but since you asked Lavon; McCain will continue to support a strong military to keep our country and its interests safe. He will continue to take measures to make it more difficult for terrorists to strike our country(no attack since 911 thanks to Bush). He wants to give illegals amnesty(that sux). He wants to create an immigration plan(from what I've read, that sux too). He wants to create an energy plan with the dems. Yea he's voted with Bush over 90% of the time, but at least he's got the b---s to take a stance and not just say "present". Is that enough for you Lavon? If you want more, look it up for yourself. And while you're at it, look at your obama's record. Or better yet, glance over a book titled, "The Case Against Obama". Nothing but facts about him(if they were not true obama would be suing the author for slander, but he's not because he can't). Vote American, not obama.

All such bitter talk on both sides. Shame on you for allowing this to prevade you entire conscious state. Everybody just try to get along and realize, McCain/Palin will win and Obama will go back to being a community organizer and Biden will go back to being an ineffective good ole boy. McCain is the only sane choice. Enough said.

I wouldn't vote for Palin if she was running against a chimpanzee. I liked McCain except for his pro war stance, but nominating this fool for VP seals my vote for Obama. Hillary seems warm and cuddly compared to this sociopath.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Greenville on Sep 9, 2008 at 10:23 AM
I believe that if you have the heart to do something you can do it. Good luck to Palin for wanting that. she is no different then the rest of us... Look at Bush... he had experience and was a complete failure! I just cant see voting for Obama because I dont see him doing the job he promises even with Bidens help. He expects to come in and snap his fingers and BOOM some great changes are going to happen... yeah right come on get your head out of the clouds guys! I feel that whatever God has in store for the United States will be done. After all its all in his plan and Gods will is going to be done no matter what...

Wrong @@@. When the judge renders the sentence is when the talking stops, usually. And as long as obama supporters continue to spout out meaningless statements, I will continue to challenge you for PROOF of what you say. And the only reason you want me to stop writing is because you know I'm right and there's nothing you can say or do to change the facts. Face it. You're candidate is a nobody who is not worthy to be president of this great nation.

Posted by: Please nobama Location: greenville on Sep 9, 2008 at 09:47 AM
Facts are Obama is paper thin. No experience, no plans other than raise taxes on the rich. Who are the rich anyone making over 250k? That includes almost all the S-corps which supply the bulk of the jobs in this country. Obama doesn't get it. He can't even speak without a tele-prompter telling him what to say, have you heard him stuttering lately? He should have chosen Hillary to be VP but he knew he would be overshadowed so he picked Biden? How is that change Biden has been in office longer than McCain. Ever listened to Biden? He is nuts. Obama asked for 1 BILLION in ear marks since he took office 2 years ago and he has been on the campaign trail for a year almost. That is like a million dollars a day. How is that change. I still have not seen one fact coming from Obama supporters that back how he is going to change things. So where are these facts. Stop crying about Bush, McCain is not Bush he has made that perfectly clear. Where are the facts, where is this great change.

The funniest thing about all this is that you people dont even realize how MCcain is using palin. If he wins I can promise you she won't have an ounce of say so in the white house. One more thing Mccain is more liberal than he is conservative, so either way you look at it were going to have a liberal president

McCainiac, here's a quote for you. "My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join me as we try to change it." as quoted by obama himself. I rest my case.

I have accomplished 2 goals on this one blog. 1)I have proven that none of you know what obama's platforms are(Iwonder what your true reason for supporting him is). You have nothing but empty words that mean NOTHING. 2) I have shown just what class of people are supporting him. And Siuya, what purpose did your double posting serve other than to show your ......? You people keep typing. The more you write, the more you prove my point. VBush has posted facts in response to Siuya. Now that you know what facts are, let's hear some about your obama. We're STILL waiting.

Im trying to figure out why if sarah palin is suppose to be a pit bull then why is she dodging the press, is it because they would expose her weakness and ignorance to the real issues here in america?

SIU YA; George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st President was only in that office for one term. If it makes any difference to you since you couldn't find anyone that voted for Bush 43...I did, twice. Feel better? I find it difficult to believe that you know enough about politics to have an intelligent discussion since you don't even know how long Bush 41 was in office. Don't tell us it was a typo.

SIUYA: "KISS OFF" is about all the Democratic party can offer, NOW THATS CHANGE. What else do you democrats have to offer. How about a platform? Keep talking about Bush, something in the past. If I remember corectly we are not voting for Bush. So far you have not presented any facts. Obama is just another talking suit, and a bad fitting suit.

Posted by: Facts Location: Greenville on Sep 8, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Can you people not read? You want us to vote for your obama but not a single one of you can give any facts or details about his "change" platform. But on the other hand, its also called plagerism, which is against the law in some cases. But in this case, the comment you copied is so ridiculous that no one cares.

Then tell me how come he's been in washington for over 20 years and has not accomplished a thing. The only thing he's ever tried to accomplish was to try and ban the UFC, in which he failed miserably. The only thing MCcain has ever accomplished was leaving cheating on and leaving his poor handicapped wife for a rich woman named Cindy which is now his wife. Talk about being a maverick!!

What has he done to be worthy?Taking more of mypiece of the pie so he and his wife can put some in their pockets and the pockets of the porchsitters? How about you anonymous.Tell us what obama's platform is. And the only thing I'm concerned about is the number of people, especially white people, that refuse to accept the facts about your obama. Against FISA, before he was for it. And I understand that a web site paid for by the Alaska Democratic Party says unequivocally that the state of Alaska officially abandoned the Bridge to Nowhere project, and credits Governor Sarah Palin. Or ... it used to say that, before the page mysteriously vanished some time during the past few days.

obama people, We have presented UNDISPUTABLE FACTS about your candidate time and time again as to why he is not worthy to be president. And every time we do so, the only replies back from you are empty statements, unproven accusations, contradictary and immature statements. I'm not comparing him with McCain here, just giving you the opportunity to defend your candidate. If you can't reply with an intelligent answer, then DON'T. Where are your facts? What has he done to deserve the job? Where did he get his so-called experience? I have researched your candidate and can find NONE(nothing that makes him worthy). Here's your chance to defend your candidate with FACTS.

LOL the republicans see Palin is a terrible choice but if they say so then that will admit defeat. So they will back their candidate to death. She is nothing more than a circus side show freak. Because she came from nowhere out of the blue people are interested. That's why she had so many people listening to her at the RNC. But after everyone pays their $1.00 to look at the bearded lady the trill is gone. Everyone talks about experience this and experience that, but we all know what it boils down to. It's a popularity contest. McCain could have gotten a Hooter's girl who is attending ECU and the republicans would have said she had more experience with the public than Obama. It's all in the way you spin things. They say, black people are voting for Obama because he's half black. OKKKKK, what about the half white side? It's so ignorant. I know America is ready for a woman to lead, a woman VP, just not that woman. Palin is not the one. We all need to vote Barr and fool them.

I don't vote the race or sex, the canidate is what maters and what they stand for. Sounds like you are a few fries short of a happy meal. Background on canidates maters. The API is in the tank for Obama. Palin offers the biggest threat to the Obama election. Their only hope to to discredit her anyway they can. This is why they cast light on the patrolman, just set doubt. Palin is a refreshing change to DC and will "get her done" better than Obama could ever. Obama is only "present" with no decision. He has no experience, yet the API focuses on Palin. Don't blame Witn, they are just the messager. If you want an objective truth about both canidates, watch Fox news. They hit both canidates for their weeknesses. Liberals won't watch Fox as they do not want to know the truth on their canidate Obama. They ignore the Rezko, Ayers and Wright stories like its not important. Wrong. As usual, the DNC picked a couple of losers with questionable background. Another Kerry Edwards legacy.

But time is not on your side Mike, the truth is starting to leak out. obamas ties to Rezko, William Ayers and the Weather Underground are being talked about on the net and FOX news and wow, when people check the facts they are finding that this information is true and yet is not being reported by obama's fawning nitwits in the media. obama's drug use and racism are beginning to get traction in spite of mainstream media's gag order. I know this is a fair station. answering this question will prove my point

Editor's Note: We've run a number of stories about Reverend Wright. To the best of my knowledge, we have not recently had the opportunity to run a Rezko story. This may seem like a cop-out, but most of the national political stories we pick up on witn.com come from Associated Press. Like most tv stations, we do not have a staff political writer. For those who don't know, Tony Rezko is a Chicago area fundraiser who was found guilty of 16 charges in 2006. Rezko has been a big Obama supporter in the past. CM

Ms. Palen is the highest rated governor in the country by those in her state. I believe that says more for her ability to represent the people than one woman's letter.

you are exactly right wolfgang-we would be in jail.so he got off lucky. why is it the news only attacks palin for everything and the sun just glows over obama? cant people first of all see he is racist and his wife too-they havent even tried to hide it. he sit under a preacher 20 years who preached hatred for whites. he only quit when he was called out on it-then he broke ties and seperated himself from that preacher. why now-the preacher was ok to obama for them 20 years? whats gonna happen if obama wins and then he goes right back in line with rev. wright and then you have to live with that racist president over you and their is nothing you can do to change it? then people will realize how could i have been so blind and not seen this coming. but it will be to late then-you will be the ones who put obama there and will be the one complaining the loudest that he fooled you. not me. i will never vote for someone that is racist.you see how fast obama dumped his 20 yr old pastor.

Its very clear that WITN is PRO OBAMA. What ever happened to fair and unbiased reporting? WITN has elected to post all negative McCain/Palin related stories, while stroking the backs of Obama/Biden. Post as you will, VOTE McCain!!!!!!!!!!

Editor's Note: All the presidential stories that we have posted recently are on the Politics page. If you look at everything there, you should see balance. Our objective is to cover all candidates fairly. While many of our employees have a specific opinion, there is no consensus in our building favoring one candidate over the other.

WITN...I'm ashamed of your less than objective reporting. I thought your job was to report news rather than offer biased documentaries. This is scandolous...maybe I should depend on WNCT from now on!!! Seems like your journalism is more in line with the National Enquirer than a news media!!! Pull this piece of junk from your site!

Ms. Kilkenny's statement (the last quote in the story) says a mouthful. The Wasilla locals are shocked, and so am I. The statement actually sounds a little frightening. If this were to come to past, a woman who only governed a state the size of Alaska could begin attempting to govern a country as large and great as the United States. That would be a nightmare.

If I was the Governor in any State that Trooper would be in Prison. That is after he got a fare trial. Drinking a beer in a car. Number 1 Thats against the law. Number 2 Killing game out of season. Thats against the law. Number 3 Unlawfull firing of a Taser at a minor. Assault & Battery. Number 4 Cruelty to Animals. He got off easy. " Only Fired "? If that was you or me we would be in jail.!!

WITN, You now have shown your TRUE colors with this one. Why don't you do a story on obama's PROVEN ties with Chicago's corrupt politicians. Or a story on the FACTS about his ties with a proven terrorist? Or a story about the FACT that his 20 year church is a firm believer that blacks should receive reparations for the slavery era? Or the FACT that Palin cleaned out the corruption in her town but obama's chicago is still full of corruption. Or the FACT that he refused to vote 130 times(very shady) by just saying "present"?

I wish the AP would devote just 10% of this type of scrutiny to obama/biden. obama is a phony, a socialist, a racist and a corrupt politician. These reporters would not have to look very hard for these stories. They have no integrity and would hide any facts to help obama get elected. By the way, I am a Hillary democrat woman who will be casting my balot for McCain and Palin. Sarah Palin is truly inspiring!!

Good Grief! This is the most slanted, negative article I've read yet! Thank goodness for FOX news so there is at least one media outlet where you can get both sides of a story. I wish the AP would require reporters to put their name with a story so we could investigate and look into other stories they have written to find out if they are really reporters or just pundits stating their opinions. This article was really pathetic and should be on the opinion page, not listed as a news story.

Mike; EXACTLY! The trooper should have been fired, and as far as the rest of it goes, they seem to be grabbing at straws.

No more WITN for me. Your bias reporting and liberal connection to NBC has lowered to the level of witch hunting.

The liberal news hounds are digging for anything negative on Sarah Palin. If they can't find it, they make it up or put nasty negative spin on completely innocent facts. Why not dig into obama? You don't have to dig deep. Look at his obvious ties to American terrorists, the ease with which he functioned in crooked Chicago politics, his ties to racist preachers and other socialists and communists. The mainstream media is in the tank for obama and will not tell the truth about him because they know the American people would never elect this leftist flake. obama is a fraud! A community organizer who is totally unqualified to be president of anything. He has never managed anything as complicated as a hot dog stand. A vote for obama is a vote for Chicago style corruption added to Washington corruption. Vote McCain/Palin for change to straight talk and anti-corruption!

I was just reading a similar "expose" on Palin on the MSM home page. The press has it in for this lady. Reading these stories are almost like reading a leftist blog. Where are similar top headline stories about Biden and Obama? HUH? Here's what the mainstream press doesn't find worthy to put in the headlines and read. I had to dig to find them: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=305420655186700 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/23/AR2008082302200.html

With no experience what is Palin going to be able do to help us in the struggling economy? It is very frightening to think that this woman could be a heartbeat away from being President of this country. How sad! It's a shame that Hillary Clinton is not the one in that position. She was by far the best one for that position. God help us! An interesting fact to add to this about her governor experience.....Virginia Beach and Chesapeake Va. have about the same population as Alaska! WOW! Also, I bet more poeple would like our current governor if each of us were to receive a check for $3,269 this month!

Let's address the ethics investigation. The Governor appoints the head of the State Police (who in effect works for the Gov like in NC). A trooper is caught drinking beer in his patrol car, killing a game animal out of season, and firing a Tazer at his 11 year old stepson. The trooper is reported as "being diciplined", not FIRED. The Governor steps in and orders the trooper be fired. Is that abuse of power? It doesn't matter WHO the trooper is. A trooper here was fired for kicking his dog!! Does there appear to be a double standard here or is this just another attempt to discredit a HUGE threat to a Democratic victory??
