From Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperatives:
Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperatives (CCEC) line crews have worked through the night, responding to scattered outages across its system, but there had been no widespread outages as of 6 a.m. from Tropical Storm Hanna.
The dispatch center at CCEC reported close to 3,000 outages through night and early morning as Hanna came ashore. In storms such as this one, with high winds and stronger gusts, power outages are most often caused by fallen trees and branches, making outages somewhat sporadic.
Crews from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation in western North Carolina arrived to assist crews at CCEC just before 8 a.m. Saturday, but were diverted to harder hit Four County EMC.
If CCEC provides your power, there’s usually no need to call as soon as your lights go out during a storm. The cooperative has a state-of-the art computer system that indicates immediately when widespread outages occur. However, if lights come on around you and yours don’t, call CCEC at (252) 247-3107 to report your outage.
Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative provides power to close to 40,000 accounts in Carteret, Craven, Jones and Onslow counties. North Carolina’s electric cooperatives serve more than 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties. Because they are located in the communities they serve, restoration crews begin work as soon as conditions are safe.
