A missing kite-surfer that the Coast Guard went to find in Hanna's winds and rains is back on solid ground, safe and sound.

Frank Mueller, age 31, became separated from a companion Friday while kite-surfing between Harkers Island and Cape Lookout. The friend reported Mueller overdue when he did not return by 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Mueller made it back to the beach by himself at approximately 10 p.m. and called 911. Emergency medical services responded and the Coast Guard assets that were searching for him, a rescue boat from Fort Macon and a helicopter from Elizabeth City, returned to base.

The Coast Guard strongly discourages boaters and swimmers from taking to the water as Hanna swirls ashore.

Environmental conditions can change suddenly, and dangerous riptides and heavy seas precede the storm's arrival.

at 31 you would think he had enough brains to know right from wrong but just goes to show you some people never learn

I would make this idiot do community service for the same amount of hours the rescue people took looking for him - plus costs..
