Tis the season for ticks and mosquitoes which is why Governor Mike Easley has declared May 21st - 27th is Tick and Mosquito Borne Illness Awareness Week in North Carolina.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 292 cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever were reported in the U.S. by the end of April and 225 of those cases came from our state.
During 2005, there were 625 cases in North Carolina and 49 cases of Lyme Disease.
