ECU Students React To McCain Pick Save Email Print

Some might call John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin to be his running mate unexpected -- but it definitely has people talking.

Students in an afternoon East Carolina University political science class had varying opinions when we spoke to them. Some of them said the pick of the 44-year-old governor might bring disgruntled Hillary Clinton voters over to the Republican ticket. Some democratic voters also agreed that the pick was risky, but a good choice. Others expressed concern over experience.

Palin was elected in Alaska in 2006 when she unseated the then Democratic incumbent. She's the first female GOP nominee for vice president.

The Republican National Convention is scheduled to start on Monday.

It was a very good choice, it blindsided the liberals into confusion. They were not prepared to attach a mother of 5, Governor and hard hitter. She is attracting a lot of Hillary supporters. McCain-Palin in 08.

On the question of experience, how much experience did George Washington have ?? and who said that Professional Politicians were a better coice than soldier statesmen or soccor mom vice presidents ?

to Anonymous, Aug., 11:38 pm. I usally post under anonymous, but i'm going to have to use a name now, I don't want anybody to think I said something stupid like that.

To Pete, obama was a community organizer a couple of years ago. Are you saying he is now ready to step in as president. Palin is more qualified than obama.

To Independent, GO FOR IT but I am supporting Obama like Hillary ask us to do. I WILL NOT ABANDON MY PARTY EVER. Good luck with McBush.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 1, 2008 at 12:23 AM
To Independent, Yes and I can tell Hillary expected us to stay on board the democratic ticket but that is your choice, I am staying because

I'd rather have the opinions of students from Harvard or Princeton over ECU.

To Mike, McBush is no d**N maverick, you can forget that, US quaking in our boots that is so "FUNNY" lmao

Posted by: Indepentant Location: MC on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:51 PM
way to go!!!.....You will have my vote and yes I was a Hillary supporter

Posted by: Mike Location: Edenton on Aug 31, 2008 at 06:40 AM
The Dems keep trying to hang the Bush tag on McCain, who is considered a maverick. How can he be a Bush clone AND a maverick? He is his own man and has bucked "the system" for years. Wise up! His choice for VP proves it! On that note take a good look at another "candidate for change", Ms. Palin, who goes against big oil and stands for high ethics. McCain/Palin has the Dems quaking in their boots!

To All, How would know what Obama does in his household? That is a dumb statement for you to make.

Posted by: hope Location: NC on Aug 30, 2008 at 04:37 PM
To TO ALL, Now that was funny. And lastly, to THINK ABOUT IT, Palin does not appear the type to roll over & play dead. Rather it's attitudes like yours that keep women down.

Posted by: ECU grad Location: NC on Aug 30, 2008 at 11:51 AM
I don't think it will pull Hillary supporters, like myself, away from the democratic party. I'm voting for Obama since I can't vote for Hillary.

Obama said in his book if given the chance he would take the side of muslims.a vote for him is a threat to America.besides he is preaching nothing new the same change he speaks of was preached in cuba in the 1950's by Fidel Castro.

Posted by: TO ALL Location: NC on Aug 30, 2008 at 09:42 AM
Palin is a Gov. of the state which took on the oil companies and the state that includes ANWAR. She has made more executive decisions for a whole state than Obama has made in his household.

I THINK THE REPUBLICANS ARE JUST USING HER AS A WOMAN TO GET WHAT THEY WANT, BACK IN OFFICE!!! WOMEN SHOULD WISE UP, MEN WILL KEEP USING THEM AS LONG AS THEY LET THEM. THEY NEED TO STOP SELLING THEMSELF SHORT. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A FEMALE IN OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, IN REFERENCE TO A CHANGE. BUT I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER IN OFFICE BEING USE LIKE THE REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TO DO!!!! SINCERLY, THINK ABOUT IT!!

Sounds like she handled congress pretty well to me. My public is tired of business as usual. Besides being a pretty boy, what has Obama done again?

Posted by: kris Location: macclesfield on Aug 30, 2008 at 04:48 AM
I think Its just another move towards fulfilling bush's promisses.

Posted by: Pete Location: Trenton on Aug 30, 2008 at 12:54 AM
She was mayor of a town of less than 9,000 people about a year and a half ago. Now she's supposed to be ready to step into the President's shoes?!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: snow hill on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:38 PM
I think we need a woman for VICE PRESIDENT as some of the man don't do anything. I myself will vote for mccain and not Obama he's for iran not the usa!!!!!!!!!
