UPDATED: Alaska Governor McCain's Pick For Vice President Save Email Print

Saying she's "exactly" what he and the country need, John McCain has picked Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

McCain introduced Palin during a raucous rally in Dayton, Ohio. The Arizona senator said he made his pick after looking for a political partner who can best help him "shake up Washington."

Palin, a conservative with a maverick reputation, thus becomes the first woman named to a spot on a Republican ticket. She declared herself "honored" to be chosen as she stood by a beaming McCain in her first few seconds in the national spotlight.

Unlike Barack Obama's running mate Joe Biden, who attacked McCain sharply in his debut last week, Palin was indirect in her initial attempts to elevate McCain over Obama.

Palin told the crowd, "There is only one candidate who has truly fought for America and that man is John McCain."

McCain Campaign News Release

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us -- Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska's National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

The liberals are revolting. McCain outsmarted them with a brilliant move with Palin. Sorry, I don't buy that mama caused her daughter to get pregnant. Kids in college make mistakes. Liberals take your poster children, Michael Moore, Pelosi, Reid, Biden and Obama and reorganize. With the internet, Fox news and even ABC sometimes, the lies are being exposed you spew. Sorry, we don't buy it. Palin is awesome and now you hate her due to her driving you canidate back into the gutters. Democrats for McCain Palin.

Posted by: voter Location: nc on Sep 6, 2008 at 05:28 PM
rest assured; palin's daughter will have a child that WILL NOT increase the welfare rolls, WILL NOT grow up in a day care center, never know what food stamps are, more than likely become a productive member of society, pay unrealistic taxes to support the democrats and their programs AND the child will know who the father is. don't complain democrats, it's to your advantage when republicans have children.

Sarah Palin should've taken a shot at Michelle Obama by saying she has always been proud to be an American.

The McCain/Palin ticket is going to energize and motivate at least two thirds of the conservative base to get out and VOTE in November. Hateful, vicous, sneering democrates will energize the remaining one third to vote. To all you left wingers out there, thanks! Keep it up, keep lying and insulting and denigrating the average American with high ethical and moral values. Keep us motivate to go to the polls in November. You guys are your own worst enemy.

I love some of the idiotic comments by the obama crew. One wrote how each rep. had his head up the next ones butt. Brilliant commentary! That argument sure is going to make me change my opinion, NOT. then he talks about the VP's Daughter and the example she set for others. My question, how about your Pres. Bill Clinton and his intern!!! I bet you didn't complain about examples then!!!I guess some attack others due to nothing of importance to say. I love how the media is comparing Obama (pres. candidate) to the Republican VP nominee....If you choose to play the attack game, go ahead I don't have time for you drivel..Long Live the Republican Party and the still great United States of America (at least if we can keep obama out)....

OBAMA 08 4 PREZ - Have you no shame? I do not know you, but I did read further down that you were an educator? Is this true? If so I am surprised at the messages you are leaving on this website. I find myself more and more surprised by your sarcasm and hatred every time I read your postings. This country does need some cleaning up, maybe we should start with people who "speak and act" like you. Call me old fashion at 29 yrs old, but if I was your mother I would wash your mouth out with soap.

To Condom, such a foolish statement! There have been many pregnancies and many transmitted deseases while condoms were being used. The failure rate of condoms is extremely high, if you depend on them to keep you safe, you are a fool! Were you there to see if a condom was used? They do fail up to 35% of the time!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: New Bern on Sep 2, 2008 at 05:21 AM
The daughter didn't make a "mistake". she knew what she was doing and didn't take the precaution to stop it. It seems like the now thing to do is be a single mom. Young girls wear the title "single mom" like a badge of honor. It used to be a respect thing because the dad walked out. Parents, can teach their child to be resposible but they don't have to listen. Todays society teaches that it is acceptable behavior.

Posted by: Condom on Sep 2, 2008 at 12:03 AM
If Gov. Palin talked about using a condom with her daughter, this wouldn't be an issue. Yeah Bristol would be having sex, but WE wouldn't know about it - and having sex isn't bad. The BAD part was when McCain picked this horribly unqualified person without fully vetting her. He changed his mind after the GOP threatened to fight his decision to pick LIEBERMAN! McCain/Lieberman 2008! *psyc!)

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 1, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Oh Hope, my attitude over this makes your democratic party look bad? Then you follow up with support for a Republican Party. You did that all by yourself. But if you want to blame me, thank you for giving me so much power! At 17 years old, if she finishes high school she will merely have a high school diploma which qualifies her to take my order. Like I said on the other blog....any one getting pregnant this day and time want to with the pills, the IUD,the shot, the ring, condoms, and abstinence. That's why I called Palin's daughter uneducated, because she didn't have enough sense to make the young man use protection. He could have been HIV positive. She didn't think enough of herself to use protection. So I don't have to wait and she if educated or not. The proof is in her belly! I agree with you Hope, we all make mistakes....but you should never have to say that about a baby. You guys say leave her alone OK then tell me, what do you think she has learned from this....?

Posted by: hope Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 11:07 PM
It is true, ignorance abounds! I am going to officially change my political affiliation, and become, as LAVON so poignantly coined on Sept 1 @6:41pm, a member of the "you people" party.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 1, 2008 at 11:06 PM
I find it hard to believe that 'Obama 08 4 Prez has the audacity to call anyone uneducated. It gives me a headache trying to read the dribble she puts out. If I am not mistaken, she claims herself to be an educator as well. I am glad she isn't teaching my children.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 1, 2008 at 10:35 PM
To Obama 08 4 Prez!; The reason we (Republicans) all sound alike is because we share basically the same views. We differ very little from one topic to the next. That is why we only bicker with you libs....with few exceptions we don't have much to bicker about with each other. We are also smarter than you, because we understand that your ideas are going to kill this nation, and we are well on the way. I also notice that very few of you libs can spell very well, or form a complete sentence. I wonder why that is?

If she made a mistake why is she getting married to the babies father? You don't marry some one because you made a mistake.

In response to: Obama 08 4 prez, The 17 yr old made a mistake. We all make mistakes. What makes us different is how we handle the mistakes we make. You make reference to her being uneducated. At 17, that is yet to be seen isn't it. Also, whether or not she chooses to get married is none of my business, & will certainly not right any wrongs that she may have committed. As for her setting an example for other girls to follow...are you serious? Her life from this point on will no doubt be broadcast all over the world, & we will get daily updates as to her further choices, & there consequences. Lucky for her that her family is supportive. Your particular attitude over this makes my democratic party look bad. McCain/Palin 08

Posted by: hope Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 08:43 PM
I am a democrat that will vote republican this year. Obama speaks of change but talk is cheap. I can not find where he has accomplished anything. He has not balanced a budget sheet anywhere that I can find, etc. He was right in saying we need change, yet other than looking good, & speaking well, what has he done? McCain has sacrificed for this country. "Maverick McCain" will serve us well, as it will not be business as usual on his watch. Palin is the perfect compliment to McCain. That her family has issues makes them all the more human. McCain-Palin/08

To Alexis, That is funny that is the same thing some of you said when Bushes daughters were getting drunk. No we won't leave Palin's daughter out of this and please don't snivel. You are old enough to know you get what you give in other words if you can't take it then don't be handing it out.

Hey Lavon- You like the rest of the Liberals are FREAKING OUT! Sure is funny to me and others. Obama does not have such a "CAKE Walk" after all now does he?!?! LOL

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Sep 1, 2008 at 07:44 PM
Who doesn't have a sexually active teenager somewhere in their family. These things happen to kids from the poorest public high schools to the most expensive boarding schools and private academies. It is not just our mistakes that define us, but also the way in which we handle them. She's not ducking her responsibility, she is defining her character by accepting it. obama is a socialist who was a VIP member of a racist church for twenty-one years. Either he said "AMEN" or he was too dumb to figure out what was going on! One way or the other, America does not need this snake. Vote McCain/Palin 08.

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 1, 2008 at 07:37 PM
Lavon your wasting your time, but still keep posting, that's what i do. Notice this.....each republicans post reads just alike. My theory is one republican has his head stuck up another ones butt and the next up another ones butt, then another one's butt. So they all think alike, post alike. So if you read one, then you've read them all unless they call you by name. What I find amusing is how they call Palin's child being pregnant "No big deal" I was shocked coming from the Holier Than Thou, Self Righteous, Bible thumping, Hand Picked by Jesus himself, Hypocrites. What kind of example does Palin's daughter send to other young girls under the age of 18, living at home, uneducated, un-married? Oh my, they sound like what they claim Democrats to be. "LIBERAL" Plus you are so right, they have talked about Obama and his family and now its off limits..LOL...to who? Certainly not me. My favorite part of the entire story is when I read, the child is going to marry the father LOL yea OK!

Posted by: lavon Location: kinston on Sep 1, 2008 at 06:41 PM
Ok her daughter is pregnant at a very young age, she also tried to fire a state trooper who is her ex brother in law. This is just turning tragic for mccain. You've been attacking Obama and his family for months now and all of a sudden now that the table has turned to her family it's off limits now. You people are unbelievable. Mccain should have known better than to meet this woman once and then name her as his vp running mate. What a very foolish decision. This spells disaster for the republican party.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Sep 1, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Today's politics smells like the MARXIST 60's. The radical LIBERAL nitwits, that lost the Vietnam conflict for America, are now showing their ignorance again. Same obnoxious rhetoric, but different faces. These crybabies are now professors, overbearing parents, community activists, and bonafide cardholders in the I hate America crowd. Governor Palin was a Mayor when OBAMA was still in law school. She has more executive experience( 12 years) that OBAMA and BIDEN ever had. When your raised on MTV and cartoons, coupled with MacDonalds and drugs, I guess todays young voters thought process becomes cloudy. Wake up AMERICA.

Posted by: Jon Location: Greenville on Sep 1, 2008 at 04:54 PM
To all you Liberals making a BIG DEAL about her daughter's pregnancy. Your guy Obama stated to the media that a canidates kids are OFF LIMITS. It's amazing that Palin is more qualified to be VP than Obama is to be VP for that matter. What did Obama do before he was in the Senate? He was a Community Organizer and that's it! How can any one of you think he is qualified to be Pres. of the United States?!?!?!?

Posted by: Alexis Location: N.C. on Sep 1, 2008 at 04:23 PM
To:yes we can, leave Palin's daughter out of this, you're being petty and nasty. A parent can teach and preach and live an example life of good morals and pray that your child has learned from you, but that child at a certain age is responsible for the choices they make, be it right or wrong. Are YOU without sin or never made a mistake?

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 1, 2008 at 02:44 PM
Jonathan, Your question will never be answered from an Obama supporter. They believe in Obama like the rest of us believe in God. They don't care about his resume. The whole liberal line of thought is not based on facts, or proven policies. Mainly because they have none. There are never any facts available to back them up because NOTHING they have ever done has worked out in the long run. FACTS are irrelevant to the left. Take gun control for example....every town, city, or municipality that has a no gun policy has the highest crime rates. But they still push it. The ultimate goal is to overturn the 2nd amendment. So there is no need to sit there an expect to get any type of reasonable response to your query. You won't get one.

Posted by: Yes We Can! on Sep 1, 2008 at 01:19 PM
Seems someone lacks skills in the parenting department. Palin's daughter got herself all knocked up. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that mommy just isn't there. So much for teaching your kids good morals.

Posted by: Jonathan Location: Plymouth on Sep 1, 2008 at 11:05 AM
My question STILL has not been answered....I said Name a bill just one that Obama has BROUGHT to the floor and gotten passed. He has never introduced ANY legislation. And furthermore the new GI bill is a joke, Mccain did not vote for it because it was slammed with pork. Look at the bill and read it there is pork there than at Piggly Wiggly. Being active duty myself, the new G.I Bill is not good at all. People do not realize that most of us can get our college degree during our service FOR FREE. We have Clep exams, some can go to college for free, we have tuition assistance that right now is paying 100% of the cost. So the outdated G.I. Bill is somewhat useless.

Palin has been more impressive in her role in Alaska than Obama has been in the senate. Palin decreased the amount of taxes on the residents of Alaska while fattening the bottom line in their treasury book. She blew the whistle on corruption & took on the big oil conglomerate. What has Obama done again? McCain-Palin/08

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Sep 1, 2008 at 10:53 AM
Let's see...OBAMA is the most LIBERAL Senator and BIDEN is the 4th most LIBERAL. That ticket translates to BIGGER government, HIGHER taxes for all workers, bigger SOCIAL programs and deep cuts in the MILITARY. If you all like SOCIALISM go for it, but don't cry when the unemployment rate goes to 10% and home mortgage rates go to 14%. I've seen this movie before, so all you youngsters get ready to WHINE.They may have to bring back the draft, because I see a mass exodus once these two get into the oval office.

I do not think that Palin has near enough experience to do the job. I think it is funny that he picked her. Now Obama is a shoe in to win. I know that one thing changed my mind about who I was voting for.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 1, 2008 at 08:48 AM
I think that Palin is an excellent choice as VP. Strong backbone take no prisoners. Obama and whats his name, Biden, are liberals as usual. Seems the party would have figured it out but no. I will be voting Republican and I am a democrat. Why, you probably don't care if you are a leftest, honesty and integrity "mater". Obama and his wife have neither. Having done real reseach on him and his wife, some of you must be blinded. Like you deny that he has some shady dealings with his church, his association with Ayers.....all being covered up on his web site but still to be found other places. So, if you were going to vote for Obama anyway, don't bother to post here. Most of us vote on canidates that run on honesty and integrity. That does mater. McCain and Palin offer that very clearly.

Posted by: William Location: Greenville on Sep 1, 2008 at 08:23 AM
Experience has done us great these last eight years with Cheney, Rumsfeld, and all of daddy Bush's former people running the show. I don't think that's really the issue with Palin, though. I just think McCain picked her for purely political reasons other than if she would make a good president should something happen to him. At least Obama has worked with Biden, knows him well, and thinks he's ready to be president. Alaska has less than 600,000 people and their problems are completely different from the rest of the country - oh, and being next door to Russia does not give the lady and foreign experience - what, did she stop Russian seals from invading from Siberia? I'm an independent and not pleased with either candidate (or party) but Obama seems to be the sounder of mind at this time.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Sep 1, 2008 at 03:27 AM
To 800 bills...I would not consider the New York Times a reliable source, unless you are a leftwing extremist. I assume those bills are from the State Senate. If so,he said "present" in the majority of those votes.

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Sep 1, 2008 at 01:38 AM
It is truly moronic how the obama supporters are attempting to dismiss Sarah Palin as unqualified to step in if something happens to John McCain. If obama is elected, the president would be less qualified and more inexperienced than Sarah Palin. If you don't want an inexperienced vice president, why would you vote for an even more inexperienced person for president. obama has barely been a senator long enough to have a cup of coffee. He hasn't actually showed up at the senate chamber enough times to even know where the men's room is! He is simply a community organizer who ran for the senate to have a more impressive title for a presidential run. To say that obama, the community organizer, is qualified to be president is like saying the hall monitor at the local elementary school is qualified to run the FBI. What does a community organizer do anyway, tell people where to go for free stuff from the government?

Posted by: 800 Bills on Sep 1, 2008 at 12:21 AM
Obama has a legislative record of voting on 800 bills that have come onto the Senate floor. A breakdown is shown in the link to the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/07/29/us/politics/20070730_OBAMA_GRAPHIC.html

Posted by: Dear Jon on Sep 1, 2008 at 12:01 AM
I got one important thing that Obama has voted on, and that's the New GI Bill that gives our veterans the real money they need to go to college these days. Senator McCain opposed it, and did not vote on it, and our very own Senator Burr voted against it! It was fought against for years until Democrats came into the majority! Supporting your troops doesn't mean giving them a free plane ride to Iraq!

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Aug 31, 2008 at 09:07 PM

Butterfly, you should check Obama out for yourself, not listen to whatever anybody has to say. That's the problem with politics, all too often we decide who we like on a sound bite or name recognition. With Obama, he's had plenty of accomplishments, none of which I'm going to go into detail, because you should look it up yourself and make up your own mind. The truth shall set you free.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Aug 31, 2008 at 11:51 AM
To Lavon..I see you are an ardent supporter of the "welfare doctrine" LBJ shoved down our throats in 1964. People have to understand that bad behavior, lack of personal accountabilty, contnually showing poor judgement, avoiding a good education ( dropping out) should not be rewarded with taxpayer handouts. Cutting spending and makeing state government more accountable, will eventually get people off of the "crack addition" of big government. 90% of blacks vote Democrat not 97%. It's the Hispanic votes that will matter in the next 15 years.

Posted by: LAVON Location: KINSTON on Aug 31, 2008 at 11:14 AM
It's very foolish to say black are only voting for Obama. That argument makes no sense because 97% of blacks vote democratic anyway, so your argument is VOID!!!

Posted by: Lee Location: Greenville on Aug 31, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Tis' a pitty that Palin is so attractive! If she were ugly, folks would be saying what a GREAT choice she is not only for her stand on the issues, but also because she is a woman. Her life long membership to the NRA has made me want to join again. It really is so sad that people look at a person's appearance and not their grit. Sara Palin has grit. How terrible it will be that some folks won't vote for her just because she is a "pretty woman." I can only hope that MOST people will vote for her stand on the issues and her thoughts about how to improve this country and NOT that she is a woman or how she looks !

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 31, 2008 at 11:04 AM
I agree with alex..pointing to her inexperience and voting for her because shes a woman???Hmmmm I guess the 95% support from blacks is coincidental and the FACT that his own VP publicly stated O'bama was too inexperienced and wasn't ready to lead this country. He doesn't even love this country..why would anyone want him to lead it?

Posted by: Lavon Location: Kinston on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:19 AM
Im going to tell you how this is going to play out. Ok she's pretty and trust me thats the only reason why you people like her. In the coming weeks people are going to come to the reality that if something happens to mccain that this woman is going to be president. At that moment people will say ok this might not be a good idea, Then you'll realize how much of an idiot mccain was for choosing her. The best thing she can do at this point is to stay home and take care of those bae bae's kids.

I have seen several posts here quoting the number of people in this country that watched the DNC. All of those 38 million were not Democrats. I watched it so I could know what they had to say. I am still waiting for Obama to describe IN DETAIL how he plans to accomplish his goals. It won't matter when he does, I will still vote conservative, but you can't attempt to educate a liberal if you haven't sampled the kool-aide they are drinking. I listened to their speeches and as usual...no substance, just a lot of smoke and mirrors. The point is, there were most likely many millions of conservatives watching, but I will be willing to bet that this coming week, there won't be many liberals watching the RNC. Let's face it Obama made history and it was worth watching, but he still didn't say anything that differed from any other flaming liberal. He did a good job delivering his speech and those whiny liberals swallowed it all like manna from heaven.

I am amazed at the comments about Palin here. Her political experience can't even be compared to Obama's at all. She clearly has more experience than him and her record shows it. She understands the 'average working person' and stands up to big companies. She found corruption in her state and cleaned it up. Maybe she can do the same to the Democratic Congress we have.

Posted by: Cactus Location: Strabane, NC on Aug 30, 2008 at 07:45 PM
"Posted to cactus", if education is all thats required for change in America then we what is wrong now, we have a house and senate full of educated people. An education does not make you smart, it only gives you the tools with which to work.

I guess since liberals are not listened to by anyone else they can sound off here. Seems 38 million watched the DNC conventions out of 300 million. I think most of you have your hearts and souls in the wrong places. I think that most of you don't even know what your party stands for but follow like sheep down the hillside. So, with that being said, I am a democrat voting republican this year. Why, most of you don't care, but that is OK, I do not trust the canidates running for office. This is Obama and Biden. Both are not what represent my belief or convictions. Both are not honest and are flip flopping "as required" while most of you listen. Well, they lied to you as they would to get your support. So, either look for the best canidate which are McCain or Palin at this point or you can be the liberal sheep...bahhhhhh....bahhhhhhh. Pirates are awesome....

To Gary, There is very little a PRESIDENT can do on his own. Every time election time comes around people start "this 2nd amendment" crap, this is a scare tactic to get you to vote their way. As for immigration I don't think any one will ever do anything about immigration regardless of who gets in the Whitehouse.

I cannot believe that McCain could make such a reckless move. I am a strong pro-lifer myself, but I need to know that the person to succeed him is going to be able to handle the job of PRESIDENT of the United States. This maverick has gone too far in my opinion...if he can choose this person for his VP, what would he do if he aimed his nukes at Russia or Iran?

I am tired of hearing about how McCain served this country proudly. Millions of young men and women served this country proudly and never so much as got a thank you for it and yes a lot of them were POW's also, McCain was lucky he came home. McCain is 99% Bush man, no thanks but H**L no thanks.

To goMcCain/palin, Hold on here a minute, if you notice we did not vote Hillary in as VP that means we did not want her in there and we don't want McBush's and his sidekick in the Whitehouse ether. Sure Hillary had 18,000.000 votes but Obama had a lot more does that tell you anything at all? Palin is a nobody, being a woman has nothing to do with it. I will note vote for someone because they are a woman or because they are black, I vote for the best one for the job and that is Obama\Biden. I can't believe you are asking us to vote for some one because of their sex. You are doing the same thing you are telling us not to do. In no way is what you are asking "RIGHT" Now I think I see why this country has gone put up with H**L for the past eight years. We can vote for because she is a woman BUT we can't not vote for because she is a woman RIGHT? Hillary is a million times smarter than Palin you can count on that.

I think Mrs. Palin Is very realistic, along with Mccain.Their not flying around like peter pan with their head in the clouds, looking and promiseing a story book ending!America is in deep trouble, this is not a time to make evrything about color,I am pecan tan,and I have children and grand children the same color,I am thinking about their future, they will be forever affected by the dicision that lies ahead,Obama and his choice for VP are running around like 2 movie stars, they seem to be more interested in theirselves than this country.Wanting to do away with the second ammendment,THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS,take everyones guns!Yea!that makes sence,we will be like rats in a cage,no way to protect our selves or our family,I guess there will be no more hunting either, what has become of this country, people you need to pray hard for America or she is surely gonna fall!I can,t seem to get anything put on here, hope this will make it

why come all say hillary was a woman and smart enough to be president but palin is a woman but not smart enough to be vice president? hillary would have been in charge of national security and etc... its past time for women to have their chance to help lead our country. why is it that people think women are a weaker sex? we have equal rights now. all women should be excited that palin could open the doors big time for women to hold office up that high in government. women stand behind this woman and lets help her get into office. people are saying palin is a nobody-guess what i had never heard of obama either. he say change but he forgets to tell you who is gonna pay for it-we the ones that work are gonna pay for all the ones who dont.so change is gonna cost the ones who try to have a good life by working hard and the lazy ones are gonna live off of us as usual. McCain served this country proudly-he is one of us. his age does not concern me-he aint dead yet. with age comes wisdom.

To LN...If something happens to McCain another VP will be in line. Look at Arlington cemetery. Everyone of those people have be replaced. The problem with the ticket is nobody wants change unless the change affects somebody else. A real shakeup is needed in this country, and it isn't SOCIALISM. Well if elected and something happens to McCain, (I mean face it, he's old and has had health problems) are you really going to want someone who has been a small town mayor and gov. of a small state for less than two years as your leader? What about National Sec., what about the war that is still going on. How many 911's do you think we'll have then, and HOW will she and her lack of experience handle and protect the US. This has me very frightened. If McCain is using this to get the Hilary votes he's nuts. I know this is not the way to do it. Give Hilary supporters more credit than that. They are smart people. I will never vote McCain/Palin.

Alaska, coldest state, hottest govenor...seems some of you are willing to go after Sarah before you even learn about her. I guess you will go to the sale on kool-aid the DNC has going on until Nov. This is a brillant move on McCains part and you don't like it. Well, get used to saying it because both will be you next "leaders" of this great country. I know you will whine and cry when it happens just like when Kerry Edwards didn't make it but it will be OK. You live in a red state so accept it. Settle down, red state=NC. I didn't like the canidates being shoved down my throat by the DNC but I do like these. After doing "research" on the canidates...google names and get away from moveon, you will find both are better qualified than Obama-Biden. If you drink kool-aide like trucker, got get another glass.

Political Science Major? History says The Democrates have been using that Change Thing story since Kennedy. Everytime they got in office they almost ruined our great country. As far as experience goes I think thats the problem with the majority in office that they are simply doing business as usual instead of doing what is right. Hopefully she will not be just a pretty face for McCain, even though she is easier on the eyes then McCain. I hope this will bring a different point of view to the republicans and create change similar to what Obama is talking about. I have been leaning towards Obamas backyard even though I am someone who clings to my guns and religion. This VP choice by McCain has put me right back on the line.

According to Snake Oil I guess i'll have to be a racist. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. She sure took the oil companies in Alaska for a ride. Remember Obama was an obscure person until he decided to run for president (how many of you had heard of him?). Obama wants and preaches (yes, preaches) change yet has a running mate that is deeply entrenched in 30 years of Washington policits. Anne of Carteret, the house and senate have never been able to bail us out of anything, they can't agree on who should go tee-tee. When Goldwater ran for president (telling my age)I voted for him, just because I though he would shake up Washington, and Washington does need to be SHAKEN, and shaken hard. Go McCain/Hockey Mom.

I guess McCain doesn't really want to win the election after all. Otherwise, why would he be picking an obscure person who's governor of a state technically isolated from US politics with 5 kids, one of whom needs constant attention as a running mate? My suggestion to all who don't want Obama, either is to just skip the top line, vote for your lesser candidates, and hope the House and Senate can bail us out of whatever troubles arise.

At the end of the day the liberals that control the party will lose. They seem to think that two liberals make a right. Well, if that is true than Kerry and Edwards would be president. They are not since they "lost" the last election, just like Obama Biden will loose this one. Yea, I know Bush cheated, and your feelings were hurt, an Bush lied and blah blah blah. Democrats need to take back their party away from the liberals. Until that happens and they continue to push liberals down my throat, Republicans will get my vote again. Democrats have this one in the bag. And wake me up either one of these two stop in North Carolina, that'll be a cold day in July.
