It was a deadly disaster that took place twenty years ago, the explosion of the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl. Although the number of people that died from the nuclear explosion can't be nailed down, it is said the effects from the disaster will impact thousands of people.
Last week, a group of East Carolina University students and staff members returned from Chernobyl, where they got a first hand look at just how dangerous this type of power can be. Students and staff toured the surrounding areas completely wiped out after the explosion.
Many of the students' trips were funded by grants from local energy and electric companies across the state.
