Greenville's new curfew goes into effect Monday, September 1st.

Police Chief William Anderson says a number of crimes are committed by teens as young as 15 years old and that's why it's crucial to have them off the streets.

Chief Anderson says they're ready for the curfew. "We're not expecting to be overwhelmed or anything, it's just another tool that we're going to use to deal with some issues in Greenville."

The curfew is Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. and midnight to 6:00 a.m. Friday & Saturday.

They should have implemented this at the beginning of the summer. Since schools back in and they more then likely wont have the high numbers of children they will catch during the first weeks of next summer. Mark my words this will be all over the news next week with parents complaining and then we wont hear a thing about it untill next summer. Then parents will start complaining thats its summertime and why should they be stuck in the house.

Chris 8/29 06:58 AM is right it's the parents too. I think it is really a pity that we have to resort to a City Curfew to protect the good citizens of Greenville from the few bad. Again I say if the Parents would control their children this would not be necessary. Wait till the Police start giving out Curfew Tickets in the next few weeks. I hope to the Parents too. This could get very interesting, but I bet some will turn this into a Race issue. I got a ticket because I am Black, I got a ticket becaues I am White, I got a ticket because I am Mexican Ect.. No you got a Ticket becaues you broke the New Curfew Law. Remember it could be worse in 1942 in Nazi occupied Paris." N'importe qui a attrap'e les rues app'es que 8:00PM 'etait tir'e " The sign says " anyone caught in caught in the streets after 8:00PM will be shot " Now thats a Curfew. I am sure we will not need that Curfew here. Lots of luck Greenville Police GO GET THEM.

Why don't they curfew parents who are out late at night partying when they should be home parenting. Maybe if some parents were more responsible and taught their kids some ethics and morals other individuals wouldn't be bothered with policing techniques this tough. Not many kids are being taught respect and this creates these types of issues. We all did 'it' and our children are going to do 'it' too, 'it's' a part of being a kid, but the kids have no self respect and no respect for others anymore. I say holding parents liable for their kids actions is also a consideration the law should enforce more.

This only keeps the underage hoodlums off the street. The curfew should also include these habitual lowlifes with felony records that do not work but are able to hang out on the street all night. If the government would start making all ABLEBODIED people living in government housing or collecting welfare get off thier rear ends and perform some kind of community service, even if its only shrubbing ditchbanks along the road, they would be ready to go to bed at night instead of hanging out dealing drugs and prostitution and God knows what else.

I THINK IT IS A GOOD TOOL. LETS BE HONEST OUR YOUTH DO NOT NEED TO BE OUT PAST 11PM UNSUPERVISED. THERE IS FEW THINGS THAT CAN BE GOOD TO BE INVOLVED WITH AFTER 11PM. IN KINSTON WE HAVE A CURFEW SET. NOT ONLY DOES IT PROTECT THE YOUTH, BUT ALSO BUSINESS OWNERS, AND VICTIMS IN CRIME. LETS FACE IT THE MAJORITY OF OUR JUVENILES ARE KNOWN TO COMMIT GREAT PERCENTAGE OF CRIMES, MOST OF WHICH TAKE PLACE AFTER 7PM. THE FIRST COMMENT LEFT WAS FUNNY "DONT GO TO DONUT SHOPS" WHATS FUNNY ABOUT IT IS EVERYONE "HATES" THE POLICE YET THERE THE FIRST ONES WE CALL WHEN WE NEED HELP. IM A TOTAL POLICE SUPPORTER, AND I THINK THE CERFEW WAS A GREAT IDEA, BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN EFFECT A LONG TIME AGO.

Charge the kids AND charge the parents if a child breaks the curfew. Make the parents take some responsibility for their childs actions.

What is the age for the curfew? Somehow I've missed this.

I agree with Chief Anderson, it is another tool that might help with some of the crime in Greenville, at least it's a start.
