Durham district attorney Mike Nifong has won the Democratic primary
and will hold onto his position. His election was in the spotlight because of the ongoing investigation
into rape allegations involving members of Duke University's
lacrosse team. Unofficial results with all precincts reporting shows Nifong with 45 percent of the vote and challenger
Freda Black with about 42 percent. Nifong faces no Republican opposition in the fall.
