Immigration protests were being felt across Eastern Carolina Monday.
Judith Parks, a member of the statewide Hispanic Coalition, says they wanted to show how much spending power Hispanics have. The group organized protests across the state, including in Jacksonville. Parks says a bulletin was sent out asking Hispanics not to participate or buy anything American Monday.
On the Outer Banks, 18 Latino employees of Paul Mann Custom Boats decided not to show up to work. The industry giant lost a precious day of production. A chain of locally owned Mexican restaurants was going to close, because many of the employees headed to Raleigh for a rally, but decided to open anyway, and were met with a much smaller than usual lunch crowd.
