Cooperation between two sheriff departments has landed two suspected drug dealers in jail and the seizure of more than 5-1/2 pounds of cocaine.

Gavino Mendoza and Martina Uribe, both of Rocky Mount, were charged after a year long investigation.

Nash County deputies say on Tuesday they seized $110,000 in cash and more than 4 pounds of coke at Mendoza's home. Deputies say that brought the total amount of cocaine seized during the operation to more than 5-1/2 pounds.

Mendoza is charged with six counts of trafficking cocaine along with other charges. Uribe is charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

Nash County says deputies from Beaufort County provided them with a $25,000 "flash roll" to help make an important drug deal go through in the case.

Deputies say a conservative value of the cocaine seized is $225,000.

Mendoza is held under a $2,000,000 bond, while Uribe is under a $1,000,000 bond.

Makes no difference if they are legal or not. They should be locked up and made to pay for their crimes. This junk they planned to dump on the streets is the root to a lot of the problems we are now facing with an overloaded justice system. If they are illegal they should be deported ASAP so we as taxpayers aren't further burdened with paying their expenses.

Just so you know, to issue someone an arrest warrant, or to write someone a citation, you need Identification. I promise you they found out if they were illegal or not. If they are illegal, im sure ICE will deport them....

Somebody needs to find out if these dealers are illegal or not. If they are illegal, then deport them. Even if the sheriff's department didn't indicate their status, the reporter should have asked the question. That is what reporters do.

Why no mention of whether these two fine upstanding Hispanics are illegal immigrants?

EDITOR'S NOTE: The sheriff's department did not indicate the suspects' legal status in the United States.

Way to go!!! Good job on spilling the beans on how cops do things...Why did you have to put the "flash roll" in the press release...Oh yeah...I guess everyone needs credit so they can make their departments look good. Some things dont need to be broadcasted to the media and the public. It only makes it harder to for cops to arrest the next guy.

US citizens? or is it PC not to ask? With that being said, good job Nash County and to all the hard working Law enforcement officers working to protect or families from what lurks in our backyards.

Thank you! Great to see these folks off our streets, however, they probably still have hundreds conducting business as usual in our neighborhoods.
