Authorities have now re-opened a local post office and a major highway after a haz-mat scare this afternoon in Nash County.

Around 1:00 p.m. today authorities shut down Highway 301 and the Sharpsburg post office because of a possible haz-mat situation in the building.

A Postal Service spokesperson says the Sharpsburg post office was evacuated this afternoon when an odor was detected in the lobby.

Enola Rice tells WITN News that there were five or six people in the post office at the time and there are no reported injuries.

Rice says a haz-mat team tested the air in the post office and all tests came back okay.

The post office has since re-opened, along with the highway.
