The rain in our area this week was much needed but it proved to be too much for the northern end of Topsail Beach in Onslow County.
The heavy rain has led to beach erosion leaving nine duplexes threatened. Officials from the town are now considering emergency steps, which could include sandbagging or emergency sand-pushing.
One property owner at New River Beach Club estimates that 26 feet of beach has washed away in two and a half weeks. Eight nearby homes were recently condemned due to damage from Hurricane Ophelia.
