Pitt County corn farmers have already taken a significant hit to their wallets this year.

County Agriculture officials say a hot, dry June is to blame for the wilted crop. They say about 90 percent of the county's corn crop was damaged. Roger Simmons farm sits on about 225 acres. But he says he'll only be able to harvest about 20. He stands to lose about 80 thousand dollars on his corn alone.

Pitt County Ag officials say the price of corn is lower than normal, but that they won't be able to take advantage.

Kingfisher, you are right. Farmers get help and fisherman suffer. I would rather eat fish than corn. Yet democrates love corn and wheat.
