Strawberry Orders are Up in Public Schools

Thousands of school children around our state including many here in Eastern Carolina, love their strawberries at school.

School orders for North Carolina strawberries through the Farm to School Program have experienced a double-digit increase for the second straight year.

The orders for the 2006 season are up 13 percent over orders for the 2005 school year. In 2005, school systems increased their orders 65 percent above the previous year.

For the 2005-2006 school year, the Farm-to-School program has generated nearly $500,000 in total sales of North Carolina products.
