The North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores is nearing completion.
The grand reopening is scheduled for May 19 after being closed for the last two years. The $25 million expansion has tripled the size of the original aquarium, which will soon house the largest salt water fish tank in North Carolina.
The tank will hold 306,000 gallons of water, and promises to be the aquariums biggest attraction. Aquarium officials say construction crews are working hard and fast to meet the deadline.
The aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is the last of three North Carolina aquariums to get renovated. The other aquariums are located on Roanoke Island and Fort Fisher.
