Greenville is down to just one license plate agency after the DMV today shut down the location on East 10th Street.

The DMV would only say the contract has been revoked for cause after a two-month investigation by the DMV's License and Theft Bureau, It says that agency was involved in alleged contractual irregularities.

The Rivergate Shopping Center location has been under contract to Stuart Shinn for the past 17 years.

DMV says it will move quickly to establish a new agency in the Greenville area.

deadfish that isn't me, that is someone pretending to be posting under my name. I would never make such an asinine comment. Nor would I use the world "weird" in a sentence at my age. I was hoping that the regular bloggers could tell the difference between me and the fake. I guess not.

I have personally been to the DMV on 10th street many times for various reasons. I never had one problem. They were considerate and very helpful. The other DMV on Memorial is just a JOKE. I went only once to be told by a clerk incorrect info 3 times before in one day about a temporary license. She kept changing what I needed to obtain this license and I kept having to drive here and there to obtain what was needed. And this clerk was very RUDE and NASTY.Do they not train their employees at that office? They have no idea what customer service is, and act like they are so above all who enter. That is the office that should be shut down. Good luck to the employees at the 10th street location. Wishing you the very best, because you were the best DMV office.

gman...to get a monopoly? You understand that the DMV contracted both offices right? All they did by shutting down this particular office was eliminate one of their two revenue sources in Greenville. They don't benefit at all.

Excellent comment deadfish! Everybody knows that ECU is a bad college.

Obama for nothing: I can't help you if you can't read NOR understand a simple analogy. BTW what's your reading level? I bet you went to ECU,SHEESH...

that was kind of a weird comment deadfish. Who brought the snakes into the office? Why won't they tell us?How much more do you know?

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Aug 6, 2008 at 03:57 PM
Naive, denial; people wake-up after an investigation it was closed>that simple. What part of that do you NOT understand? If you mess around with snakes you'll get bit sooner than later...

MY HUSBAND WAS TREATED VERY BAD BY AN DMV OFFICER AT THIS OFFICE , HE WAS RUDE, PREJUDICE AND ENJOYED SMIRKEY COMMENTS WHEN HIS TAPE PLAYER WAS NOT ON. HE ENJOYED PLAYING GOD WITH PEOPLES LIVES.

Yes the other DMV is a bad bad place to have to go. Rude nasty nasty nasty people there. Dont like Washington eather but guess it is better than the other one by Lowes in Greenville

I too, agree with other posters! I live a LOT closer to the DMV that is remaining office. However, I drove slam across town due to the staff at the Memorial Drive location. You wait in a 30 minute line (which is usually out the door in the heat or cold) only to be treated and talked to in such a rude manner!! Greenville is too nice and too big of a city to only have one DMV office. Maybe if our officials went and stood in that line and were waited on by that staff, they would understand what I as well as others have stated here!

WITN, why not provide more details? The DMV on 10th street is 100 times better than the one across town (very RUDE people working there). Beginning to wonder if the other DMV blew the whistle for a minor infraction on the other one to get a MONOPOLY in Greenville....maybe the Raleigh DMV should look at cleaning up their own mess in Raleigh first before shutting down honest people in Greenville!

Does anyone know exactly why it was shut down? There's not very much insight on the matter.

As a former employee i would like to say that i am deeply saddened by this decision. Mrs Doris and Stuart were GREAT people to work for. Every one there was like one big family, and a great one at that!! I KNOW the dmv has this decision all wrong. As a title clerk for another dealership I will do everything I can to keep from going to the other dmv in Greenville that is full of VERY RUDE and UNHELPFUL people. There was never a time that Mrs Doris or any of the other girls there didnt go out of their way to help answer any questions i may have had!! Mega, Crystal, Linda and Penny i wish you ALL the very best and good luck finding something else. I hope and pray that the dmv will figure this out and KNOW that they did something terribly wrong by shutting the BEST dmv there has ever been in this area!!! Im sorry for all of you wonderful girls!!

When we lived in Greenville we went to the other DMV once and only once. After that we found the 10th Street one & we would go there for all our DMV needs. We learned VERY fast that the other DMV there wasn't a good place to go. RUDE people that work there. We are planning on moving back to Greenville and pray there will be another DMV to replace this one. Better yet, replace the other DMV in Greenville and reopen one for the people that worked at the 10th street one. They are truly wonderful people at the 10th street one. They always helped me out and didn't try to make me feel dumb. Matter of fact, after moving to another state I had to call the 10th Street DMV for information and was given it without any rudeness. They are going to be missed. LET’S FIND ANOTHER DMV FOR THE 10TH STREET PEOPLE AND GET RID OF THE OTHER DMV. THAT SOUNDS GREAT TO ME.

I second April's comments..we will miss everyone at the 10th street location.Mrs Doris,Stewart,Megan and the rest of the entire staff were like family to the dealers here in greenville. To the poster that said it has went down Stewart ran this DMV for 17 yrs and is a man of great integrity do not speak about something you have no knowledge of.The other DMV is rude and unhelpful that is why no one goes there they need to learn customer service skills when anyone walked into Stewarts DMV you always felt as though you were among family...there are not many places that can say that after 17 yrs in the business. To our extended family at the DMV let us know if you need anything we will be thinking of you.

I am not sure what is going on but I wanted to say that Ms. Doris and her girls have always been extremely helpful to me. I would never hesitate to call because they were always eager to resolve my problem. I will miss them!!!!!!

the license plate agency on 10th st was the best one to go to the people were very nice and great at their job, I feel they should of had more of a notice than just one day, there are several people out of jobs because of this. This license plate agency is going to be missed and the people who worked there.

Greenville dealerships are almost in tears at hearing of this news. Mrs Doris and Megan are angels from heaven when it comes to DMV dealer work. No one can convince me otherwise. Its horrible that we will be forced to use another agency, being that the other office in greenville is full of rude, non-helpful title clerks. Customer satisfaction was at its greatest with the 10th st location. Why would dealerships from Farmville, Greenville, Washington and all surrounds towns come to this location rather than their own town, or other greenville location?? This makes me feel like flags should be flown at half staff....To Megan, Penny, Crystal...good luck, i know it will be hard, luv you guys!

I can remember when Anna Garris ran the DMV on Dickison Avenue. She took sooo much pride in the buisness and was a great owner for the store. Everyone loved her! It is a shame to see how the Greenville DMV has just gone downhill since the ownership was turned over.

I am very aware of some things that have gone on there and am glad the situation was resolved. However, do not we have bigger fish to fry? For example, the heroin addict that's out on our streets breaking into houses...

Even the DMV is corrupt now? Crime is out of control and DMV's are shutting down? What next? Greenville is in a downward spiral.
