The Wilmington Star-News reported Friday that New Hanover County authorities have held a drill to set up the shelter at Noble Middle
School.

When a hurricane strikes, the shelter could accommodate 36 cats and 80 dogs.

The animals would live in pet kennels lining hallways of the school.

Owners would stay in separate areas of the school. In the past, some pet owners have refused to evacuate because many hurricane shelters don't accept pets.

Yes it is about time , we could use several of those shelters statewide. Many people would not leave their homes, back in 1999 , when Flloyd hit here , because they were not allowed to take their pets, as Brenda said, many pets are like family members, would you want to leave your family members behind? Alot of animals were found dead after Flloyd during animal search and rescues.

It's about time. To some, their pets are part of the family.
