The head of a cancer research center is urging his faculty and staff to limit their cell phone use.

Dr. Ronald Herberman of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute is worried about the possible risk of brain cancer. He says there's a "growing body of literature" linking long-term cell phone use with adverse health effects, including cancer. He's basing his warning on early, unpublished data.

Herberman is urging his faculty and staff to keep cell phones
away from their heads, and use the speakerphone or a wireless
headset. He says children should use cell phones only for
emergencies.

Other researchers point to numerous studies which have found no
link between cell phone use and brain tumors. The Food and Drug
Administration says if there is a risk it's probably very small.

I agree with V.Bush, this article is pointless unless it contains more facts and information. In my opinion it is incomplete.

The story is incomplete as is common with most WITN reports. What is it exactly about cell phone use that these scientists are potentially linking to cancer? If it is radio waves then wouldn't an ear piece produce the same results? If it isn't radio waves, then what technology is contained in the cell phone that isn't contained in the ear piece that is possibly causing the cancer? There isn't enough information in this story to make any real decision or give it any credibility. What is the source of this "growing body of literature" that is referred to in this article? Who are the "other researchers" referred to stating that "numerous studies have found no link between cell phone use and brain tumors"? What studies are they referring to?

Scientist spend more time and money telling you what causes cancer than what can cure it. But then why would they want to cure cancer, HIV, colds? They make plenty of money stringing these sick people along stretching their lives out a few years longer. Curing them means they have lost a customer. What doesn't kill you these days? To many eggs, not enough eggs, to little fiber, to fat, to skinny, drinking, smoking, tomatoes, jalapenos, pitt bulls, poodles, meat, sweets, the heat. All the medications of TV have 700 side effects. And the only people I don't see sick are homeless people. There is a thin line from being brilliant and being insane, I think the scientist are going insane.

Wake up people. Ever wonder why there is so much Cancer out there?

Man built this world and man is going to destroy it! I am about sick of hearing that my hard earned taxes that I am paying out is paying these scientists do investigate stupid stuff instead of finding cures for things we already have going on. I would love to know exactly where these scientists are so I can call them and tell them personally how stupid I think they are and for them to stop wasting our tax money!!!Let's just live in bubbles because everything outside of that bubble will kill us. Cell phones, light bulbs, foods, water, air, vehicles, the sun, smoking, watching tv, .... According to scientists, there is nothing that exist that will not kill us. Stop the stupidity and do something better with your time and our taxes!!!

Geez, can anyone tell me what DOESNT cause cancer when over used?

Posted by: Concerned Location: Lewiston on Jul 24, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Although brain cancer hasnt been proven to be linked to cell phones, it is being said that there is a possibility. Whether SMALL/LARGE it could happen. So why not just be careful and just war tthe ear pieces. You are still able to talk on the phone.

WOO HOO The University of Pittsburgh RULES!

Posted by: Disgusted Location: Greenville on Jul 24, 2008 at 09:23 AM
This is hilarious. This is not the first time this has been said and the first few times were proven to notbe true. It justseems like another way to get people to stop using their cell phones. If parents wouldnt give cell phones to their children and all of the 18 year olds would pay attention to the ROAD, insteadof discussing what color they are goingto dye their next or what club they are going to get drunk at, it might help.
