The Monday night home invasion of a Pitt County family of three, sent shock waves through the community, now one of the victims is speaking out about the ordeal.

We spoke with Clifton Whitehurst, one of the three victims in the case. Whitehurst says he first noticed something strange in his yard Monday night, around 10:45. He says after he and his son went to check out the yard, he was met by a pistol wielding, masked man. Whitehurst says in all four men bombarded his home, which sits on a secluded lot in Pitt County. Whitehurst's son was shot in the leg during the robbery. Now the victims are left living in fear.

Whitehurst's son was treated for his injuries. The group of men only got away with a little over 150 dollars. Anyone with information is urged to contact crimestoppers or the Pitt County Sheriff's Department.

Note to all ... if something suspicious is going on outside, stay inside, arm yourself and call the police. If you do choose to go out to investigate dont investigate unarmed especially if its dark outside. Your best bet is to call local law enforcement and stay inside.. Its better that it be a false alarm and the police or sheriff respond then to go outside and endanger yourself or family. Also develop a crisis plan for your family. If someone breaks into your house make sure that everyone knows what to do. My oldest knows know to stay in there room and not to come out until my wife or I call or come get them. I basically look down the hallway while wife goes into my youngests room and gets down on the floor while calling police. At that point we await the arrival of the police. I hope it never comes to it but its better to have a plan then to have something happen and have to come up withone on the fly. Also get to know your neighbors as many times they can see what you cannot.
