With the storm along our coast line, Emergency Management workers are busy preparing for what could be just heavy rains and gusty winds.

Beaufort County Emergency Management Director John Pack says they believe the Town of Belhaven could see the brunt of any tropical weather as storm surge is expected to push into the Pungo River.

Hyde County Emergency Managerment says they expect 50 mph winds around the Pamlico Sound and Oracoke area starting Sunday morning.

This could disrupt ferry service and power along the Outer Banks.

An increase of rip currents are also an issue along the coast this weekend.
Dare County Emergency Management Coordinator Sandy Sanderson about their plans for tomorrow He says:

Currently, Dare County Emergency Management Officials have discussed their plan of action for Tropical Storm Christobal.

Dare County Emergency Coordinator Sandy Sanderson tells us, they are watching the projected track of tropical Storm Cristobal.

It's predicted the eye of the storm will remain offshore, Emergency officials do not believe winds will be a problem.

He say residents in Dare County will see the effects of Cristobal from 10am until three pm. Sanderson says everyone on the coast should watch out for 50 mph winds offshore near Hatteras Inlet.

Fierce winds of that velocity could cause delays for the Ferry Service at Hatteras Inlet. Call 1800-by-ferry to get information on the schedule and delays.

In case, there's sand displacement onto the roadways, Sanderson says they have the equipment in place and ready to go to clear Highway 12, the only highway along the outer banks.

Sanderson says usually on weather events like a tropical storm, storm surge and rip currents can be a problem. The surf is already chopping and dangerous for swimmers.

Flooding is not Sanderson concern for the Villages area, like in Buxton, Hatteras and Frisco. He says those areas are usually suspectible to flooding.

The next 24 to 36 hours will be monitored closely.
