A second Democrat in the state House is calling for speaker Jim Black to step down from his leadership post. Representative Pricey Harrison of Greensboro says Black should step down at least temporarily while dealing with his legal problems. She told the News and Record of Greensboro that she's worried Black could be distracted by his legal troubles. Also this week, Lorene Coates from Rowan County publicly called for Black to step down for similar reasons. The State Board of Elections has asked prosecutors to investigate whether the campaign broke any laws. It also ordered the campaign to forfeit more than 23-thousand dollars in what it considered illegal corporate donations, as well as donations from the video poker industry and Black's fellow optometrists.
