A former nurse at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville is behind bars, accused of embezzling a slew of pain medications while on the job.

April Lenora Locklear, 35 years-old, is accused of stealing 463 ampules of hydromorphone -- or opium, as well as several dosages of injectable opium. She's charged with six felony counts of drug trafficking.

Warrants obtained by WITN show the alleged incidents have been taking place for the past six months on the job.

Locklear is currently in the Onslow County jail under a $100,000 bond.

I agree with Ashley....this was just plain stupid on the nurse's part. I do wonder, as these are controlled substances, did she pocket doses meant for patients in need, or did she just falsify the records with non-existent patients???

How stupid this person worked hard to become a nurse and threw it all away over some pills.

Why bother with this story, she will get a good lawyer, probably paid for by the state & she might have to pick up trash in the courthouse for a few days!!!

I agree with you 100% Lisa. Just like my comment on the marijuana story, the focus needs to be on drugs that are ripping apart families...not pot! This is one of those drugs where the charge should be much more harsh than what the teacher is likely to get.

These drugs are much more of a serious problem then the marijuana story..Opium and injectable opium for goodness sakes people this is a 35 yr. old nurse who probley sold these pain medications to your children..
