Greenville police say they've made an arrest in the April 22nd robbery at the Greenville Mall parking lot.

Joshua Evans is charged with common law robbery, assault inflicting serious injury and assault on a female. Police say an elderly woman was robbed and accosted in the parking lot while walking to her car. They say Evans grabbed her purse, causing the woman to fall.

He's in the Pitt County jail on a $100,000 bond.

Detectives say they are continuing their investigation into this robbery and other similar crimes around the mall.

Despite the Law & Order and CSI episodes you watch, crime isn't solved in an hour.

I think we all should be careful how we judge others. No, I am not making excuses for Joshua and it does not excuse what he has done, but when we raise and train our children in the way they should go and if they stray it's in the hands of a higher power. Joshua has a wonderful professional mother who has always wanted the best for her children, but like you and me our children may make mistakes beyond our control. I hope that Joshua will learn a lesson from this and be able to move forward. I pray for the elderly lady, I pray for Joshua (inspite of what he has done), I pray for Joshua's mother,I pray for others whom are lost, and I pray for you. It was Joshua today it could be yours tomorrow so be careful how we judge others.

Well Mr. Officer I have 0 tickets. BUT I'm sure you don't believe me. Once again, I have you distracted to the point that you cannot resist replying to my posts. The only reason why I am hating on the police is for not keeping the city safe! Hence another shooting last night!

Posted by: Officer Location: Greenville on Jul 20, 2008 at 02:40 PM
Ohhhh Dave, I still wish I could see how many traffic tickets you've gotten to make you soooo disgruntled towards law enforcement. Oh yeah, this guy was caught off of a traffic stop. I'm glad nobody pays attention to your ideas and cuts back on their proactive enforcement. You're not going to bait me into talking bad about my Chief, either. Nobody ever agrees with everything their boss says for them to do. He's got some great ideas and I've done well under his leadership. Don't worry though, Dave...no matter how thankless some citizens may be we'll still be out there every day doing the best we can do for you and everyone else in the community we serve. You slow down, now, and wear your seatbelt and maybe you won't get anymore tickets and you'll stop hating the police so much.

You are correct mall employee; Mr Officer is all proud of himself for all of GPD's accomplishments, YET fails to remember that the job is still not done!

where is the driver of the getaway car? job only half done....

To chris. This lady must be related to you in order for you to comment joshua's parents. If so just be thankful that she is not dead. If not, you are sick individual and you and Joshua are on the same level. I'm sure that you've done everything right in your life. I wonder if everybody determine how your parents are from the behaviors you have displayed. If so I guess you was perfect as a child and you are the perfect adult. WHAT A SHAME stated that in high school he was polite and willing to help, so I assume that his parents weren't worthy of going to jail then. Please don't misunderstand me, he should be punished for the crime that he committed not his parents. If so what should your parents be punished for. I'm quite sure that you drink so it's proper for for me to say that your parents were drunks. Oh you got a "d" on your report card so it's proper for me to say that your parents were dummies. Just be careful what you say about someone's parents. That's not nice now Chrit

Officer I find it amusing that I occupied enough of your time to write your little blurp. Like I said, it took the GPD 3 MONTHS to find this guy. I don't think that Chief Anderson is the real problem when it comes to the crime situation; I think that he is getting the bad rap like a baseball manager or football coach. You know, fire the head man for their teams lack of vision and ability to get the job done.

To "Concerned" Citizen. I understand your point totally. However, the problem is that not everyone can handle carrying a gun with a CCW permit. Alot of people would take advantage of the fact that they can take their gun in the mall or other places, and act a fool, just because they can. I think that there would be more problems if people knew they could go anywhere with a weapon. Not everyone is sensible enough to handle this.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen Location: Greenville on Jul 17, 2008 at 06:24 PM
Now if only the legal system will punish him instead of a slap on the wrist. The problem is that the mall chooses to disarm legally armed citizens with the no guns signs on the main entrances.Meaning that those with CCW permits cannot legally carry into the Mall. Criminals know that law abiding citizens will be unarmed when they leave the mall so they make easy targets. Criminals also dont care about the no guns signs and they will be armed. I have several friends that have CCW licenses and they refuse to shop at the mall for this reason alone. I also refuse because its a no gun zone meaning that if someone walks into the mall and starts shooting in the minutes it will take for the police to arrive a CCW ... you have to depend on the GPD to arrive as no CCW carriers will be around which could help defuse the situation sooner.

For those complaining about DWI checkpoints read the story "Woman Dies in Onlsow County Hit and Run". The woman wreaked her car and then after she flagged down someone to help her while she was talking with them she was hit by a drunk driver. If a checkpoint had of been in operation it might have prevented her death. So the checkpoints do help and are not a waste of time. Nor do they take away resources from solving crimes.

Good response from "Officer in Greenville", you guys and gals keep up the good work.

One down One thousand to go. Now slap his hand and let him go like the system always does. Maybe they will send him to the institution of higher education (The State Prison System). Let's get tough on crime and criminals so when they pull time they will not want to go back.

Posted by: Officer Location: Greenville on Jul 17, 2008 at 01:36 PM
No Dave, you're wrong. We conducted a DWI checking station this past Saturday night and still managed to catch this suspect a couple of days later. There are still assigned traffic officers doing their duties as well as detective doing theirs. One of our "useless" traffic officers stopped a car the other night that resulted in a significant drug seizure and got a drug dealer off the street simply by doing traffic enforcement. I would love to know your last name so I can see how many seatbelt or speeding tickets you've gotten from officers trying to keep the driving environment in Greenville half-way under control. Criminals like this one DRIVE to and from their crimes and are often intercepted by officers conducting traffic stops or deterred by a simple thing like blue lights from a speeding ticket being issued.

Joshua R Evans only has one other charge in his past- 8/30/2004 he has a larceny charge on him. Thats it- so hard to say he is a hardened criminal- or perhaps he just has not been caught on much yet? Hope he can see what road lies ahead of him on his current path.

I went to the mall Monday on my lunch break with a friend. While getting ready to back out of my parking space, I noticed an elderly woman with a walker who was trying to get into her car. She had everything under control, but she was moving very slow. My friend and I decided to wait in our parking space until the woman was safely in her car before we left. Although the woman was capable, I just felt like she was vulnerable and couldn't leave knowing that some one might try to harm or rob her. I hope Greenville becomes a safer place for children, the elderly and everyone in between.

Oh come on Josh--ur at it again? This time, PoPo, youre gonna have to make it a little tougher on him and make it last for a while. The sooner he get out, the sooner he'll so something else. Its time to really crack down on all thats breaking the laws and doing things illegally. Good job for catching him--this time!!

Posted by: What a shame Location: Greenville on Jul 17, 2008 at 12:19 AM
This is sad if indeed he did this. I met Josh several years ago when he was in high school and was impressed with his politeness and willingness to help others. I feel for him and his family that it has come to this for him. If in fact he is guilty then he does need to pay the price.

Nah, I just think that the GPD is setting up less DUI traps. I guess when most of these guys who applied for the job working for GPD they never expected to do any actual crime deterrance.

I must say, things have gotten better lately. Did they increase patrols in the downtown/ECU area?

This punks parents need to be in jail along with him, for not teaching him to treat the elderly with respect. I bet he would be mad if somebody did that to his grandma. Penalties need to be stiffened on young offenders, since they seem to have no home training.
