Woman Safe Cracker Being Sought In Martin County Save Email Print

Deputies in Martin County say they're looking for a woman safe cracker.

Kellie Taylor of Windsor is wanted on felony safe cracking, breaking or entering and larceny after breaking or entering.

They say Taylor and Jody Hammond stole approximately $65,000 in cash last Thursday from a home in Martin County.

Hammond is now in custody, but deputies are still searching for Taylor.

Anyone having information on the whereabouts of Kellie Taylor, contact the Martin County Sheriff's Office at 252-789-4500 or Martin County Crime Stoppers at 252-792-8800.

To n.c. good girls don't stay in trouble with the law. They stay home and take care of their own children. Instead of having them taken from them. And yes I know them all envolved, Kellie, grandma, dad and child. Her and Jody both have put their families through alot and it sure wasn't because they were good.

you are right, it's not Kellie's fault. It never is the criminal's fault because they are such "good people". She is safe for a while anyway with the crew we have looking for her.

If i were yaw i wud stop putting up here that ppl have a lot of money n their house around martin co. cuz there are some crazy ppl out there. They cud end up stealin some more

They both have been in trouble. Drugs are destroying our young people. Perhaps Martin County needs to find out where her father is. She has run there before.

I know many older people in my community (Farm Life)who keep their money stashed because they don't trust the banks. It doesn't mean that they are drug dealers. Someone I know very well had her safe stolen and lost about 45K in martin co. I know for a fact that it was hard earned and a hard pill to swallow when it was taken by people who used their dolly and their crowbar and hammer out of their shop to get into the safe. It's almost sickening. All I can say is they better watch it. Things have been disappearing around here lately and our citizens are watching out for each other.

I went to high school with kellie... she was a very nice person, and super smart. what a shame if this is true; she had alot of potential.

Because most of us have common sense so we are over-qualified. Take the murder in Hamilton for instance. It is VERY obvious who did it but they are still walking around a free person.

I live in Martin County and if I was in a bind needing $10K-$20K-$30K on the weekend or in the middle of the night... I know several hard working, old fashion folks that don't keep all their hog and tobacco money in the bank. Not everybody with large amounts of cash in their house is a criminal drug dealer. I agree that its not the safest or smartest way to keep your money as over the years in martin county I remember at least 15 breakins where nothing but the safe was taken. A couple of years ago when the creek dried up on Prison Camp Rd. they found over 25 safes busted and cut open that had been thrown off the bridge. Some of the folks in the community found a guy pushing a wheel barrow with a safe in it. He took off running to the woods and we had a full fledged man hunt that night and caught him the next day. The sherrifs dept. had to let him go b/c supposedly his rights had been violated. I bet he won't come back to Farm Life again though.

To you that ask who would keep that kind of cash at home....well a lot of OLD people that worked and saved their entire life does not trust BANKS so therefore they have kept their savings at home...If it had better details about where the money was taken from I could better judge the situation.

As far as having 65K at home...Have you guys been watching the news?! It appears the funds may be safer in a home safe than in a bank or, god forbid, the stock market.

65k is a good bit of loot to keep in your home, but with all the banks collapsing- I don't much blame them. The bigger question is how did she know this house had so much in it? inside job?

Lots of people keep cash in their home. Just because you might be broke does not mean everyone else is! Remember the safe cracker's from Pitt County that were hitting houses on a regular basis in Martin, Bertie, etc?? Older people especially choose not to bank because they can remember being told about the great depression, and when the banks basically stole all of their earnings when they did trust the banking system. Having money does not make you a drug dealer.. most drug dealers in this area do not have that kind of cash anyway! The real money goes to the major players, and I can assure you that they do not live in BFE with 65,000 in a safe!

It's not a law against keeping money, any amount, in your home. The people the money was stolen from are NOT drug dealers. With the economy the way it is now,I don't blame them for not putting the money in a bank. Has anyone watched the news lately? Well, then you'd see in the bigger cities where the banks and investment companies are going under due to the economy. What makes Martin County any different? The point is some one broke into a house and took something that didn't belong to them. They need to be caught. If you put 60 thousand in a bank and the bank is robbed or worse the bank closes, only a certain amount of your money will be insured, NOT the entire amount. I think I'd rather bury it in a hole somewhere if I had that much.

65K is another story in itself. That needs investigation. Generally only drugs dealers carry that much cash.

I want to know what kind of person would keep approximately $65,000 in their home. The kind of people I know with that much money just hanging around their house..the police is ready to do a sting on them.

I know elderly people who experienced something like this after having a care taker in their home who must have discovered their safe in a closet. Someone broke in and did open it and to my knowlegde the robber has never been found or I guess "fingered" by the caretaker. So, please be careful when you have anyone in your home who is caring for you, another member, cleaning ect. Sometimes that individual being bonded is no help.
