Victims of the May 11th tornadoes that struck Bertie and Onslow counties have until Monday to apply for low-interest loans.

Thirty homes without insurance were destroyed or received major damage in Bertie County, while in Onslow County 16 homes and 10 busineses had major damage.

The federal loans cover uninsured repairs to home and businesses in both counties, along with those with damage in bordering counties.

Storm victims are also eligible for state grants to help with temporary housing, repair of homes, replacing vehicles and other personal items. So far, 33 applicants in Bertie and Onslow counties have been approved for more than $138,000 in state disaster aid.

For more information on the federal loan program, you can call the Small Business Administration at 1-800-659-2955.
