Round 2 of WITN's Biggest Loser competition is over, with 22-year-old Kristen Kinney taking the title! She lost 36 pounds.
While the grand prize winner got a $500 prize and a $500 gift certificate from Robinson's Jewelers, we hope all the competitors will be winners with healthier, slimmer bodies and improved eating and exercise habits.
Take a look at Lanita Ivery's Biggest Loser journey. The 47-year-old grandmother from Kinston is an assistant principal at Mount Olive Middle School in Wayne County. She is 5' 7" tall and was 255 pounds at her initial weigh-in. At her final weigh-in, she was 230 pounds, bringing her total weight loss to 25 pounds!
Lanita talked about why she entered WITN's Biggest Loser contest:
"I struggled with weight off and on over the years, and I wanted to do something -- this is the year about doing something for myself that is healthy and productive, and I thought the best gift I could give myself is to take off some of these pounds so I can live a longer life."
Lanita worked with the folks at Minges Wellness Center at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston. She took third place and won $125.
Contestant Sam Wynne took second place in the contest and won $250. He lost 29 pounds. Sam is a husband and father, and wanted to do this for himself and his family.
"My wife is younger than me," Sam said. "I don't want her to be a widow. And my daughter... I want her to have a dad."
Sam worked with the folks at HealthNow Aesthetics & Wellness in Greenville.
Kristen Kinney was Eastern Carolina's Biggest Loser, shedding 36 pounds in her journey.
Kristen is 22 years old and a nursing student at East Carolina University. She said her future plans as a nurse played a role in her Biggest Loser effort.
"I felt like I shouldn't be telling people how to live their life healthfully, while I'm not living my life that way."
Kristen worked with the folks at Fit For Life 24 in Greenville. She won $500 and a $500 gift certificate from Robinson's Jewelers in Greenville.
