Hundreds of acres of forest were up in smoke and homes were threatened, as the wind whipped the blaze across the Lowland area in Pamlico County. It is day two of the wildfire that's swallowed up 500 acres of forest so far.
Lowland is located North of Hobucken, near the Pamlico River where it meets up with the Pamlico Sound. Officials say the fire may have been intentionally set. Crews had a really hard time with the blaze, as winds shifted the flames in an erratic pattern.
At times the flames drew close to homes, but so far, firefighters have managed to beat it back. Airplanes and helicopters were called in to help in the fight.
