Greenville Students, Leaders Discuss Underage Drinking

One Pitt County community will work together to stress the importance of pulling the plug on underage drinking before it begins.

Students from East Carolina University will join forces with Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks and Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley on Tuesday, hosting a discussion about what makes the habit so dangerous.

In 2011, the Pitt County Youth Risk Behavior study showed a little more than 9% of middle schoolers said they had at least one drink in a month.

The same study showed more than half of the Pitt County students surveyed said they tried alcohol before they got to middle school.

The underage drinking forum is from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ayden 2nd Street Community Building.
