A Duke University student from Sierra Vista who disappeared Thursday after rappelling into a cave on Fort Huachuca has been rescued. Authorities say 20-year-old David Shipman has been flown by a med-evac helicopter to University Medical Center in Tucson. He's
listed in serious condition and is undergoing tests. Fort Huachuca spokeswoman Tanja Linton says Shipman was home on spring break and went hiking in a remote area of the Huachuca Mountains. He told friends he was going to rappel into a cave on a sheer cliff for about a half-hour. When he failed to emerge 90 minutes later, one friend went for help. Linton says 170 people from numerous law enforcement and rescue agencies were at the site between Thursday evening and yesterday afternoon, when rescuers including paramedics brought him out.
