Officers Say Program is Working to Make Neighborhoods Safer

The Greenville Police Department is proud of the difference their officers are making on the streets.

Back in 2004, the department created a Problem Solving Team, to increase communication between residents and police.

And so far it seems to be making a difference in reducing drug activity, trespassing and loitering. The team worked in the Cherry View, and Tobacco Road neighborhoods for about a year, and the team says they are seeing improvements. Now the group is beginning work in the glen Arthur neighborhood near ECU.

A recent review of calls for service in the area has shown a decrease in burglaries, damage to property, gunshot related complaints, and controlled substance violations.##
