A single case of mycobacterium tuberculosis, commonly known as TB, was reported in Carteret County this week. County health department officials say more than fifty people have been tested who may have contracted the illness. Those results aren't available yet. So what is TB, and are you at risk for contracting it? Health officials say while TB is contagious, they say it is not an illness that can cause an outbreak. If you suspect you have come in close contact with it, there is cause for concern. Their advice is to look for symptoms like fatigue, fever, night sweats and cough, difficulty breathing, and weight loss with no explained reason.
