Judge Threatens to Shut Down 19 Schools

A judge is threatening to shutdown seven high schools in Eastern Carolina due to poor performance under state standards.

The schools in Eastern Carolina on that list are Bertie High school, Northwest and Southeast Halifax High Schools, Hertford County High, Northampton West High School, Plymouth High School in Washington County and Goldsboro High School in Wayne County.

Statewide, Superior Court judge Howard Manning says 19 schools fall short of a state constitutional requirement that all students receive adequate educational opportunities.
