A boil water advisory has been lifted for customers of the Plymouth Water System.

A break in a 12-inch line forced officials to issue the boil alert Tuesday evening.

The break has been fixed, and the town got back test results this morning that says the water is again safe to drink.

Original Story

Customers of the Plymouth Water System in Washington County are advised to boil water due to the potential for contamination following a water main break.

Town officials say there was a break in a 12-inch water main near Highway 32. Based on the potential for contamination, customers are advised to boil all water or use an alternate supply.

Wednesday, around 9 a.m., the water will be turned off in parts of the system as repairs are made. Residents are urged to use water only as necessary until further notice.

According to the town of Plymouth, boiling water rapidly for a period of one minute before drinking or making drinks like coffee or ice making should "greatly reduce the possibility of any bacteriological contamination. Because boiling water can increase nitrate levels, infants and pregnant women should not drink boiled water. Bottled water should be used by pregnant woman and be used for preparing infant formula."

The town stresses that no microbiological contamination has been found in the drinking water as a result of the break. Samples are being collected and tested. We'll keep you posted.

Washington Co. is NOT under a boil water advisory; just Plymouth. Besides, Pines Elementary is a customer of Washington Co. Water System!

Sorry to hear that Washington County is now under a boil advisory--do you think that Pines Elementary knew about it but just didnt let anybody else know about it? Where is the nurse that they let go--I bet she wouldve had the waters tested b/c she cares.

If you were not notified via the automated system, please call Emergency Mgt at 793-4114, and request that your number be added to the database. You have to be responsible to a certain extent in notifying them of any changes!

I do apologize I was not getting the calls until a couple of years ago I simply called the town office to make sure my phone number was listed in the call registry in case of emergency. I figured it was the same procedure for eveyone.

To MS.Blount we are listed and have been for the four years we have lived here. And not once have we ever been called for anything. We have contacted the town office numerous time to get this corrected but just like everything else in this town Nothing gets done!

In the defense of the town of Plymouth a public service announcement telephone call went out on yesterday around 6pm. The story was also covered on the 6:00pm news. We were informed that the water levels will be low. Water was not turned off completely until the scheduled time. As, for the high water bills this is the real world if we use it we have to pay for it. I wish we could get this participation in some city council meetings. I have an idea announce the meetings on your station and see if all of these concerned citzens will show up. (Remember only listed telephone numbers will get the call hint...if you change your number without notifying the town how do you expect them to call).

the article says the water will be turned off @ 9 today but ours was off @ 7. And we did not get the automated call to let us know about the problem. Did they send one out? And what are the areas affected? is it all of plymouth or is it just around 32? as usual no communication with the public.

The water has been leaking on 32 for a month.Has it been contaminated all this time?
