The animals at the state aquarium on Pine Knolls Shores will move into a new home in just two months. $25 million dollars in renovations are well underway at the new state aquarium and are expected to be completed in May.
The new facility is triple the size of the old one, covering 93,000 square feet. Nearly 3000 animals will be showcased in 40 exhibits. Some of the new exhibits include a 300,000-gallon tank that replicates a shipwreck; a 32-foot waterfall and a stingray touch pool.
The aquarium will open to the public May 19.
