A winter weather advisory has been issued for all of eastern Carolina except Carteret, Onslow, and Duplin counties from 6pm Thursday through 4am Friday. Light freezing rain and sleet will be possible.
As nice as it was outside Thursday, the warm temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions pose a real fire danger. Here in Eastern Carolina, the state Forestry Service has issued a red flag warning, an extreme danger warning for our region.
Officials say it will last until warmer temperatures and winds die down. They say March 1 until the end of May is extreme fire season in Eastern Carolina because of not only the low humidity but the sap starts rising in trees. Forestry officials add outdoor burning of any kind in city limits is prohibited without a permit.
