Lawmen Investigating Murder Case, But Say Weapon Is Missing

Lawmen in Bertie County say they are dealing with a murder case with no weapon. Investigators say the suspect, 20-year-old Taiyon Deshawn Cherry of Lewiston, claims the shooting death of a 58-year-old man was accidental. But investigators say they have evidence that suggests otherwise and have charged Cherry with murder. Wednesday evening, sheriff's deputies responded to Pine Street in Lewiston and say they found John Lewis Tyler dead in his front yard with a bullet wound to the back of his head. Lawmen called in the State Bureau of Investigation to help conduct a search of the crime scene. During that search of the property, investigators found a bullet casing they believe was fired from the murder weapon, but no gun.
