Skepticism paid off for an Edgecombe County man, who got a check for nearly $3,000 in the mail. The check originated in Ireland and was sent to the Pinetops man.
The instructions told him to cash it and send back some of the money to receive more than $92,000. But the smart citizen didn't fall for it and contacted the authorities. As he believed, the check was a scam.
