Woman Accused Of Assaulting Wilmington Officers In Chase

A North Carolina woman is charged with assaulting police during a chase that sent one officer to the hospital.

The Star-News of Wilmington reports (http://bit.ly/19tNb6O ) that charges against 51-year-old Joyce Norris include two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing to elude arrest, and driving while intoxicated.

Lt. J. Spence says when officers responded to a Wal-Mart for a suspected theft, Norris backed into one patrol car, then hit another car in the parking lot before leading police on a pursuit to a neighborhood.

Spence says Norris then collided into another officer's patrol car. Cpl. D. Long was treated and released from the hospital for wrist and knee injuries.

She was arrested after a foot chase.
