Security upgrades to the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City are expected to be finished in the next three to four weeks.
The construction has been going on for several years. Federal grant money has allowed for upgrades to fencing that surrounds the port, surveillance cameras, and signs displaying homeland security threat levels.
Employees and regular visitors will also have to check in at the front gate using an electronic key card, so the port can keep better track of the people entering and exiting the base.
