Greene County officials say two horses were found dead in a pasture and fifteen other face an uncertain future due to their conditions.
Carl Davis, age 68 of Goldsboro, was arrested in the case and charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty, with two of these felonies. He has now been placed under a $15 thousand dollar secured bond.
Greene County animal cruelty investigator Michael Rhodes told WITN the horses were in a pasture on Burrell Field Road and the surviving ones were starving for food.
"There were horses that were in distress," Rhodes said.
As for the horses still holding on, despite their thin frames and boney hips, Rhodes says they're doing all they can to make sure they have a chance to survive.
